Go to OCS or in the air forces case OTS.

There are actually 3 ways an enlisted man can earn an Air Force commission.

1 - Apply for OCS/OTS. If you have a degree, this would be a good quick way to get a commission.

2 - Apply for an appointment to the Air Force Academy. IIRC a certain percentage of each entering class is made up of enlisted appointees. If you wash out, you go back to active duty, unlike civilian appointees.

3 - Apply for an AFROTC Scholarship. If selected, you will go on inactive status and be enrolled in a college or university with an AFROTC program. Your education will be paid for and you will recieve a monthly stipend. I don't know if you still draw your regular Air Force pay. When you earn your degree, and there will be a stipulated time frame to do this and you will be counseled by the Detachment's Officers, you will also be commissioned a 2nd LT in the USAF.

Good Luck to you.

There are several different ways
1. Finish your bachelor's degree and apply for OTS.
2. Airmen's Education and Commissioning Program-stay active duty while going to school full time (up to three years) for certain degrees, mainly engineering. Then go to OTS.
3. Apply for the academy.
4. Apply for ROTC programs that allow you to separate to finish school (ASCP, POC-ERP, and SOAR). No need for details of each listed now, check out http://www.afoats.af.mil/AFROTC/EnlistedComm/EnlistedCommissioning.asp
5. Bootstrap which allowed one year of active service time while attending school full time has been changed to the Air Force Education Leave of Absence. This is very similar, but can be used for two years. This site, while not official, gives a lot of information about this program: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/airforcetrng/a/bootstrap.htm The member has to also apply for OTS to earn a commission after completing schooling, as OTS is not automatic after completion of degree through this program.

Start with your education office and your supervisor for any of those programs. Good luck!

Force shaping = Air Force speak for downsizing. They are outsourcing maintenance, finance, admin duties to civilians and paying officers to get out. This is because the Army and Marines need the money so badly that the AF and Navy are seeing budget cuts.

Like mentioned above, go to OTS. However, like also mentioned above, force-shaping is a bad thing. To go to OTS though, you need to be one of the best your commander knows. They are cutting down the sizes of OTS classes and only about 10% are accepted right now.

Best of luck to you.
