Not at all, Any dog can be trained at any age. I rescue dogs, all have been between 2 and 6 YEARS and they knew nothing, all are trained and well behaved now. 4 months is just a wee puppy, she is at a perfect age to learn. Start now.

Nope, she is not too old to train. Read up on how to train and take care of a puppy, and find a trainer in your area. Take her to a set or two of classes (most courses run 6 to 8 weeks) and have fun learning and working with your dog!

She is still a puppy, you should have no problems.
1. Using Food – ie. offering food (reward training, bribery, clickers), withholding food (reprimand). We have all heard of asking the dog to do something and when the dog is successful the dog receives a treat. Or, the use of a clicker to let the dog know they are going to receive a treat. Some of the most popular methods use bribery - it’s effective but the dog is responding to the treat. Not to you!
2. Fear – ie. scaring the dog with physical or verbal abuse, threatening, hitting with newspaper, throwing objects etc. Some of the most effective and popular training methods are based in part on fear tactics. Most of us have heard of ways to correct behaviors with fear tactics. For example, the dog is jumping and you raise your knee when the dog jumps, or, the dog takes something from you that you do not desire the dog to have and you throw a can full or rocks at the dog, the dog is playful biting and you bite back, rap the dog's mouth with something. These are all effective, but the dog is responding in fear because he thinks a fear tactic will be used.
3. Praise & Respect – ie. desire to please pack leader. It is more desirable that the dog understands what pleases you or what does not please you. It is more desirable for me to give the command "Sit", and then follow through and praise the dog for pleasing me. All these methods work. However, we all want a high-spirited, predictable dog that understands what pleases us. Not a dog that is fearful, or is going to want food any time I communicate.

In my opinion a dog is never too old to train. Just keep trying, and eventually they will catch on. I would get treats and maybe a clicker. Also does anyone you know have a pet also. Maybe they would be willing to give you some tips. I hope this helps and Good Luck!

It is not too late. Get a good book on dog training to teach you how to train the puppy.

Nope, she isn't too old, she is still a puppy, she should learn quickly, especially if you enroll her in training classes. Actually, when they train police dogs and such, sometimes they don't start training them until they are even older than 4 months, and police dogs are extremely smart. So that should be fine, good luck!

Definitely not too old! Find a trainer in your area and start working with her now. A good book to get started is Dr. Ian Dunbars "AFTER YOU GET YOUR PUPPY". You'll see me mentioning it on this list often...it is a wonderful puppy training book and the only book we sell at our practice! His website is www.siriuspup.com or you can get if from Amazon.

it is never to old to train a dog, just the older they get the harder it is to train. 4 months might even be to young for some dog trainers. i know a lot of trainers wont train a dog until they are 6 months.

no shes not to old but it is however much easier to train a dog if you get them when they are very young i would take it to puppy preschool cause we got a dog when he was 6mo and he has learned things like sit and stuff but he never comes when hes called cause he doesnt think of us as boss no matter how hard we try to train him

What? That is the perfect age to begin the training. They will learn quickly at that age. The older the dog the harder it is to break the bad habits they have.
