A month ago I was rear-ended at a stop light. There was $8,000 damage to my minivan. Because the frame was not bent, the insurance company had it repaired. The driver who hit me left the scene without exchanging information. Witnesses got the license plate, and my insurance company found him.

Fortunately, I do not seem to have been injured, although I did not sign the release because I have heard that sometimes symptoms present later. I was hit pretty hard, and was pushed into a big truck in front of me (no damage to the truck, only my hood), so I was really involved in 2 collisions.

My insurance company offered me $800. Is that reasonable? It seems to me that the driver should get some sort of monetary consequence for choosing to commit a felony, rather than give me his insurance information.

You know if you were injured or not. If you were that's one thing, if you weren't then you can either sign the release and take the money OR refuse money you are not entitled to.

So let me get this straight.. to "punish" the other party.. YOU should get money? Can we say GREEDY ! Dont you think if anyone got money from this it should be mothers against drunk driving or a charity of some sort? Why should you gain when someone does something wrong?

You are owed NOTHING if you didnt treat for an injury. You are so incredibly lucky they offered you 800.00! Sweetie- you didnt win the lottery.. you were involved in an accident.

He will face criminal consequences for his action.. its not your job to punish him by getting his money. And it wouldnt even be his money.. its the insurance companies. Seriously.. people wonder why insurance is so much. Geesh. Questions like this get my blood boiling.

The purpose of insurance is to compensate you for a loss. These include, damage to your vehicle, medical bills, loss of work, other expenses incurred while trying to get everything back to normal. Insurance is not designed to make you better off than you were before the accident. Sinc eyou did not have any medical bills or "pain and suffering" $800 seems like a fair figure to compensate you for the "inconvenience" you suffered.

The $800 is to end any further compensation for future claims. Take it and hope you don't find out later that there is a hidden injury. As far as the other driver is concerned, you don't get paid for his leaving the scene.

You're vehicle was repaired...you were not injured.....so there are no medical bills, feel lucky you didn't get stuck with a ticket for hitting the guy in front of you, that's right, in some states you can be ticketed if your vehicle collides with another after being struck, you were too close to him. Stop asking for money, things were made right, guess its too much to think you'd be happy you survived without injury.

The court will deal with the other driver. If the insurance fixed your car, you have been made whole. That's the purpose of insurance. If you expect a big payday, go buy lotto tickets.

Was a police report filed? Can't see you getting money if you're not injured. But if a police report was filed, then the other driver can have criminal charges brought against him. And then it the city/state that gets the cash.

what reason is it that you expect to collect money? your car was damaged, and now your car is repaired. you are not damaged, but you want something why? was it stress? pain and injury? was it you are being selfish?
why does everyone want somthing from an insurance company? you are lucky you werent injured. Maybe they should pay you for being lucky?

i'd ask for extra. you do no longer want to tear them off, yet in basic terms $2000 looks low. yet of course they consistently start up low. i'd ask for $5000. in the event that they won't negotiate, call a criminal expert. frequently all it takes is a 5 minute telephone call from them to the coverage corporation, and you get what you deserve. consult with the coverage corporation and ask for extra. in the event that they are asserting no, tell them you should touch an criminal expert.

Get checked out throughly by a doctor, a chiropractor if you can... and it would not hurt to talk to a lawyer before you take the $$$.. taking it could waive any future ability for you to sue if an injury shows up. YOUR insurance company offering you cash is strange... you think it would be the company of the driver at fault.
