I'm in too!
It's more than just science, it's all education and teaching people to think logically. Also, ever since WWII, people are starting to realise that its not "all right" to feel superior to another gender, nationality or religious community. Thus, religions have a harder time recruiting.
Now, people have started to think more for themselves and question what doesn't seem logical to them. It's a problem, because Faith is based on unquestioned belief, to believe without proof.
Maybe the belief in God isn't wrong, but at the moment, no religion can bring tangible, logical an irrefutable proof.
I admit I find it hard not to believe, I still have a hard time accepting that once I or my close ones die, we simply cease to exist. I don't think it's very fair.
Atheists are as moral or immoral as any other group. Except, atheists base their moral system on not causing harm to people, because life is limited and there's enough suffering as it is without people adding to it.
I also respect people who do not think as I do. If it brings them peace to believe there's a Plan or Will behind all this (existence), then no problem.

It's very hard to say how many of us there are, but we've been around for awhile. Many religious people I've spoken to, addressing a similar question, are shocked to learn that Abraham Lincoln was an Atheist, as was Benjamin Franklin, Napoleon Bonaparte, Charles Darwin (no surprise here), and Albert Einstein. There have been various polls taken, but nothing seems to stay constant about them. Christianity is estimated at roughly 80% in the United States... but again, it depends on who you talk to.

I believe in God. One thing I think is interesting though is how people use science to somehow disprove the existence of God especially when some of the greatest scientists in history believed in God including:
Copernicus
Kepler
Galileo
Newton
Mendel
Kelvin and
Albert Einstein just to name a few
Here is a quote from the undisputably brilliant Einstein:
"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
P.S. Writersblock73 seems to think it's okay to just make up things and hope people believe it. It's actually a well known fact that Lincoln, Ben Franklin, and Einstein all believed very firmly in the existence of God. Lincoln was raised a Baptist and attended a Presbyterian Church in Washington and frequently quoted from the bible during speeches, Franklin was one of the main advocates for prayer before each session of congress, and and I've already provided one of many quotes from the great Albert Einstein proving his belief in a higher power. Please... think before you speak.

Actually it seems that atheists are non-believers because they can not have faith. Because there were so many scientific discoveries that proved god right just as there were wrong. However i have no problem with you not believing. Its okay and im glad your a moral person. Thats all i care about, you could believe that a chair created us and i wouldn't care as long as your a normal moral person. And i'm happy that you respect peoples opinions and all. I just wish there were more non-believers like you.

Census is needed to know how many people who do not believe in God.
You belong to this category :
Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

Religion has been around for thousands of years... Modern science??? Five hundred or so???
Religion has had a big head start. But, thankfully, many more people are waking up and realizing that they don't have to blindly follow the religion of their parents.
Our ranks will grow,... worry not, my friend!
