This is a wonderful website siting how to perform ADULT CPR. Please understand that infant and child CPR is varied slightly.

Good luck, and GREAT FOR YOU for wanting to know how to do it! Also, the American Heart Association, www.americanheart.org lists locations where you can take classes and become certified if you want.

Take care,
Heidi.

if the patient is not breathing and has no pulse,,, then you should open the airway and give 2 breaths, enough so that you can see the chest rise and fall, followed by thirty chest compressions, on an adult go between the nipple line in the center and press down at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches, press hard and fast, and repeat 5 times before you call 911, if you witness the collapse then you may call 911 first and then begin CPR, keep it up until help arrives, it patient is breathing without a pulse then you only have to do compressions, if patient has a pulse and is not breathing make sure the airway is clear (pt not choking) and give breaths every 6 to 8 seconds, if patient is choking then u should do the heimleck maneuver as you have probably seen before, get behind the patient place your hands thumb knuckle pointed inward just below the breast bone and thrust upward hard untill the object is expelled. these steps are different with children and you could probably search the internet under cardiopulmonary resuscitation to print out.

Take a level one class. It's only like 3 or 4 hours and you'll learn all the basics.

It is not a hard skill- but it is a lo easier to learn in class than in a format like this.

The compression part is a piece of cake, but the breathing is really best done on a manikin.
