Three men checked into a hotel room for which they paid $30. The next day, the manager realized that the men had been overcharged. She gave the bellhop $5 to return to the three men. On the way to their room the bellhop decided to keep $2 for himself, and give each of the three men one dollar. The three men had now paid $9 each, or a total of $27. This plus the $2 the bellhop kept makes a total of $29. What happened to the other dollar?

there is no missing dollar. the $2 kept by the bellhop should be subtracted from the $27 spent by the men to get the $25 spent on the room. In other words, the total amount spent by the men ($27) should equal the amount for the room ($25) + the amount the bellhop kept ($2).

The $30 originally spent is made of the $2 the bellhop kept plus the $3 returned to the men. The riddle wants you to think it's logical that 30-3+2 would equal 30, rather than 29.

There is no other dollar. They gave $30 and were to get back $5 because the room was $25. They got back $3 and the bellhop kept $2.
$3+$2= $5
$25 + $5 = $30

there is no other dollar b/c the three dollars that was returned to the men plus the extra two would equal five dollars. adding dollars onto the overall amount after returning some of the ,money would leave 25 dollars. plus the five that was supposed to be returned would equal the original amount 30 dollars

All the money is accounted for.
Each man parts with $10 to total $30 the hotel people keep $25 which means the men paid $8.33 not $9! Are you with me? Then they get back $1.00 each so that brings it to $9.33 each, multiply that by 3 and you get $27.99 plus the $2.00 from the bell boy and you get $29.99 (makes $30 if you use the correct figures ie $8.3333333333333333333) lol
