Lalitha Sahasra Namam as well as Vishnu Sahasra Namam in Sanskrit contain all types of names with both male and female genders.

It can be experienced in one's own life that regular chanting of Lalitha Sahasra Namam while inspires action in one's life, the Vishnu Sahasra Namam inspires intellectual ability more in one. So for students and children the Vishnu Sahasra Namam is advised more as they are energetic by nature and needs the development of brain more perhaps.

Now getting into some History, Sri Sankaracharyar actually wanted to write a commentory for Lalitha Sahasra Namam initially and asked His disciple to bring the text. The disciple brought in the text that of Vishnu Sahasra Namam. The Acharyar told him to take it back and bring the Lalitha Sahasra Namam again. But the disciple again happened to bring in Vishnu Sahasra Namam. Then the Divine Will as a vision came to Jagad Guru Aadi Sankaracharyar that He should write commentory for Vishnu Sahasra Namam.

As for your point there are some traditions of worshippers in India such as Shaivaits, Vaishnavaits and Shaktheyas, each claiming themselves and their Deiti upsmanship over others and there are ample number of Puranas and Stories to show each Deiti's superiority over others. This also caused a lot of infightings also among the followers. Shankaracharyar's Advaita Vedanta actually brought in together all these different types of followers and somewhat a reduction in infightings.

The rest of the things for you to ponder within and find out for yourself if you have genuvine interests to go deeper into, as jk's words are restrained here by the Almighty Lord for some of His/Her/Its/That's purpose, that which perhaps you may or may not find out later as Thy Divine Will ....

The passage you have cited tells the power of the Mother in what ever name you call her viz. Devi, Durga, or Lalita, is great. Mother in any form is worshipful, and Lord Krishna also born of a Mother only. So it is to say the importance of mother-
