If you think you might like him, what's wrong with going out to get to know him better? It's a date, not a commitment.

Well it depends on if I think this guy is dating material. From what you have typed it seems like he could be good to go out on a date with at least. Whenever you meet anybody that you never really conversed with, you won't know if they are compatible until you at least go out one time.
If my male radar sensors are sharp I won't look past all the things I dislike about him on the first date and pass them off for the little things I think I like about him. That is people's biggest mistake! Doing this will allow you to be able make honest distinctions between all these answer yourself.

I wouldn't assume he is a loser or deperate if he wanted to date me. Good looks doesn't necessarily mean he is confident. Can't be a player if all he did was walk around campus. So, I guess given these variables, I would have to go out with him!

I wouldn't think too much of it. His asking you out, if you want to go out with him, then accept his invitation. You can not really judge a guy base on him asking you out. You have to at least get to know him right?
