It is annoying no doubt. Many towns nowadays have adopted a city ordinace that requires all garage/yard sales to apply for a permit (some are free some cost upwards of $10) but the goal isn't so much for the city to make a profit from the Jones' selling last years junk, but more for the purpose of having the permitee's signature stating that they will remove all signs and other forms of advertising immediatly after the sale. If you do not follow the terms of the permit than the permitee will be fined. A small town across the way has this ordinance and now when a yard sale is over--the signs are down and there is no wild goosechasing. Of course there are some who break the law but isn't there always?
If you are tired of the deadends when spending a Saturday bargin hunting, I suggest contacing your city councilmen. Good Luck with your endeavors!

The ones who leave their signs up and do not take them down should be charged with littering.

Bad directions are just bad directions.

Save time and fuel-if you're looking for bargains, go to a thrift store instead.
