first i dont care because the Bible tells us to pay what is theres to them and then pay Gods what is his. however what i dont agree with is that now the states passed laws so that preachers cant preach against what they think is wrong. they cant discriminate against gays or anything else. and they cant preach against that lifestyle now either. that is what i dont get. if we are seperate but yet they can put laws on what and what not the church can preach against. i am sorry if you are gay guess what the Bible says it is wrong. and if you dont like our pastor talking about that then find a church that oks is. and that does go for all sin. we preach against tv and other things too. and if you want to be part of the ministry you have to be baptized in Jesus name, receive the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues which last monday i was filled with the Holy Ghost along with another person from our church. praise the Lord. but also our pastor wont let you be part if you have cable. we have a tv but we use it for a monitor to watch dvds that are christian movies. so we preach against it all. if you are a female and wear pants he wont let you tell you stop wearing them. and many more. but now they say he cant do that. that is what is messed up.

Wow, wouldn't it be nice if we all could decide what our taxes pay for. I personally would not allow one cent to go to the war fund. Someone down the block might not want to pay for roads and freeways, because they don't drive. Someone, whose kids have finished school, may not want to pay taxes for education.
The only reason for the government is to provide for the commons; that is all those things we all need, use and/or have access to. I too am a Christian, but there are many people in our "melting pot" country who are not. Should they also demand to have their taxes removed from government when their religious causes are not funded?
Everyone pays taxes, unless they want to get arrested. It is unfair to put your beliefs above theirs. In churches across the country, the believers can make a great difference for the poor, for prisoners and any other charitable cause they choose, without one cent from the Government and I believe, in the long run, this will save the Church and the State.

It is the church that is tax exempt (and even they shouldn't be as most have their hand in politics) not the parishioner. One may be a christian but they are also a citizen of the United States and under that secular government first and foremost and therefore abide by the laws.
They have the choice not to, but then that is also the choice to take the consequences.
If you are vocal about that program step up and give money on your own like many other people do with charities they support. It amazes me how many others wait for someone else to take action to make change rather than taking the bull by the horns and helping out themselves.

I don't have a say where my taxes go, and I don't belong to a church. I found out that there are programs that are funded with my tax dollars that are religious based.
The Spearation of Church and State is to guarantee that one religion cannot be established as the National religion. You religious tithes won't do anything to pay for the resources you use, or could potentially use, such as police, fire department, school taxes, etc. Therefore, you'll be getting that for free, unless you were to tell the police not to come in an emergency, the fire department you will put out any potential fire in your home, and you won't use anything at a public school ever. Also, you will have to stay off the roads, seeing as you won't be paying to have repairs done to them, and the sidewalks, seeing as they are also paid for by tax dollars.
Separation of Church and State doesn't mean you can separate yourself from American society while living in our country and using our resources. Your tithes keep your church, and church related programs going. You'll need to get the people of your church to act for the cause you wish to get funding for, and not take away from taxes that pay for things that keep America moving, and safer.

In response to the previous response, Yahshua paid the tax because PETER SAID HE WOULD, not because He was otherwise obliged to. It was so that PETER would not then cause an 'offense', ie lying that the Master wouldn't pay the tax. That was the purpose of asking him about the 'children being free.'
Anyway, if you are in the U.S. the laws are very limited in paying income taxes, and most people do not have to. Study the tax laws a bit and you'll find out its true. However most people will not stand for the truth because *GASP* they might have something taken away from them.
Tyranny rules in this world.

If you seriously want all of your tax dollars to go to your church (which isn't paying taxes by the way), is your church prepared to take care of the things normally covered by government funding in your life?
You pay taxes because you use the infrastructure created from these tax dollars, just like everyone else.

All religions would desire to pay taxes. Peter the great made it a regulation in Russia and it worked in basic terms nice. The State have been given richer and the Church powerless. it is like smashing the pinnacle of the Serpent.

We certainly have a right to say where our taxes go just like any other citizen of this country. To say we don't is to deny us equal rights under law.
Perhaps we should start a movement claiming everyone who doesn't like Christianity and Christians are Christophobic. I bet we could start pushing for laws giving us special protection against those who speak out against us, after all there is one other group that seems to work for.

Because a job and paycheck have nothing to do with church.
the church is exempt. Be happy about that. Are you better than the rest of us that you should be exempt. We all have to support our government whether we like it or not.

The separation is one directional, from church to state, otherwise the non-establishment clause would itself be meaningless.
