I don't know but I'd think it's a feeling of contentment in life.

True Happiness This Way Lies

And have you ever wanted something so badly
that it possessed you body & your soul
through the night & through the day
until you finally get it!
And then you realize that it wasn't what you wanted after all.
And then those selfsame sickly little thoughts
now go & attach themselves to something....
....or somebody....new!
And the whole thing starts all over again.
Well, I've been crushing the symptoms
but I cant locate the cause.
Could God really be so cruel?
To give us feelings that could never be fulfilled. Baby!
I've got my sights set on you, I've got my sight set on you
And someday, someday, someday you'll come my way.
But when you put your arms around me
I'll be looking over your shoulder for something new
'cause I ain't ever found peace on the breast of a girl
....I ain't ever found peace with the religion of the world
....I ain't ever found peace at the bottom of a glass
sometimes it seems the more I ask for the less I receive
sometimes it seems the more I ask for the less I receive.
.....The only true freedom is freedom from the heart's desires
& the only true happiness....this way lies.

It can be hard to conceive of, but for Buddhists (esp. Theravadins), the understanding is clear that so long as our minds are in the least bit "agitated" we are not free.

Most of what we typically experience as being happy has an agitated quality. And those Buddhists who've experienced an "agitated-less," Nirvanic freedom will tell you, no other "happiness" compares ... and they would not trade it for any other experience in this world.

Our language of course is built in a context that doesn't much include such nirvanic experience, so we literally don't even have a word for that level of [happiness].

True happiness cannot be explained it can only be experienced.
It's like asking a person if they have enjoyed the apple pie, when the person being asked hasn't tasted the pie.

I can tell you this, if a person wishes to experience Happiness or Joy, they must eliminate that which causes sorrow and sadness within their life.

True happiness to me is being content with yourself and where you are in life. It is enjoying your surroundings, the people and the environment. It is knowing that the necessities are enough and what extra you have can be shared with those in need. True happiness is being able to smile and make someone elses life a little easier.

I got to tell you it is absolutely wonderful, the joy of waking up each morning having your wife and family at your side, enjoying the beautiful things around you and accepting the life you have chosen, and living a positive lifestyle.

It is knowing that no matter what this world throws at you, you are never separated from the love of God, and so you have strength to move forward even under very harsh conditions and be a blessing to others who are near their rope's end.

Comes from knowing, loving and obeying God. This brings the sweetest peace available on the planet and on into your eternity. Nothing can beat it and nothing ever will.

Happiness is a myth. There is no such things as true happiness. That only exists in Disney movies... Reality isn't a fairy tale. Happiness is an emotion not a state of being.
