I think when you put God's priority of spreading the Gospel and laboring for the salvation of others at personal expense to yourself first, you have come a long way in perfecting yourself.

An interesting thought. I believe the furthering of the Gospel is our commission and the sooner one gets to it the better others are. Also, as we spread the Gospel the Spirit works on us perfecting us as you say. Most people will see the change take place. Sure others will say the person is a hypocrite, but others will see the person grow before their very eyes.

I believe that spreading the Gospel is more important if we must choose one. However, we must also attempt to better ourselves in the process of spreading the Gospel. No one will ever be perfect and if they wait until such time then the Gospel would not be spread at all. Look at the Apostles and early disciples, though. They did not allow their imperfections to prevent the spreading of Christ's message. They worked to spread the Gospel and allowed God to change people's hearts and open their eyes.

Perfecting yourself, without question in my mind.
I have known people who try to spread the gospel to all family members, friends, and everyone they meet. But one guy in particular I know cheated on his wife and left her with debt, told her she was up a creek because she was not yet a citizen, and as a result left alot of people resentful of Christianity. The sad thing was that he spent some time as a minister, and anyone who knew him that was considering converting quickly stopped.
The point is if you expect people to follow your beliefs they will be able to spot if you are being a hypocrite. This may turn them off from faith altogether, so it is alright to talk the talk, but you better be walking the walk before you open your mouth.

It isn't easy being human, and there is a lot of things people do that other people don't agree with. I know that I have done somethings that haven't been the best. But, all I can do is go on, and be the best I can from now on. I can't dwell on the past, and have a poor me attitude. The pure, simple truth is, that life is hard, and things in this world hurt, and sometimes it sucks!
I would rather share my bad things and show my humbleness than hold on to them and dwell on them. Live and learn & get strong, build a tough skin. And spread the knowledge that I know. It's all that I have!

Neither I think there has to be a balance. We will never be perfect but if we stop trying then thats not a bvery good example for spreading the gospel. Our actions can be a way of doing that!

Spreading the gospel is not the way to go. Perfecting yourself is. You have power over yourself so you can perfect yourself to that of jesus wants. However spreading the gospel would be telling others what to believe and you can't control their decisions for they have their own free will.

Well first you need to better yourself. You can't preach to a person when you committ the same sins they do. You don't have to be 100% perfect but you have to at least make the effort. Then you witness to people. That is one of the most important things when you're a Christian. You're supposed to witness and get whoever you can saved.

Spreading the gospel. First of all we can only be made perfect through the sacrifice of Jesus, who died that we may be made perfect. To try to be perfect on our own is vanity, because we can never do it. Secondly, we are commanded by our Lord to spread the gospel.
PS: I agree that we should try to better ourselves, but we can never be perfect except as I stated above.
