Try uninstalling and reinstalling Norton. It could be that the installation is corrupt.

If needed you can use this tool if you have problems uninstalling:
(only if you don't have any other Norton installed on your pc, or it would remove that as well)

This Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products from your computer. Before you continue, make sure that you have the installation CDs or downloaded installation files for any Norton products that you want to reinstall.

This procedure requires that you use Internet Explorer. If you have this page open in any other Web browser, please start Internet Explorer and open this page in it:

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?OpenDocument

Symantec is famous for this when they want you to renew your account to keep up your virus defenitions. Wait till they lock up your computer when you don't .
I hate to sound like a spoiled sport but McAfee will do the same thing.
Instead of having a good customer service they have shipped it all to India, You can not speak with a tech rep and if you are fortunate to reach Tier 2 or above they all act like you have put them out.
I would Un Install it and get PCCillin, or look into your Internet Service Providers Free Internet Security Suite.

Send the error report, that will allow microsoft to update the issue. Or it will send the report to Symantec (norton), and they will find a program correction durring a live update.
