My 19 year old cat went into kidney failure and died after a tiny dose of metacam oral-I have read hundreds of stories now of similar cases-there is no such thing as a safe dose as some cats are extremely sensitive to it and by the time you find out it is often too late! I would find another vet if mine prescribed that dose-1 drop every 2 days is more than enough-maybe your cat will be a bit sore without painkillers but rather that than dying of kidney failure-its a horrific death. google "cats metacam kidneys" and read the horror stories for yourself or visit metacamkills.com my two cats were fine without follow-up painkillers after neutering as are most! its not worth the risk

We use Metacam frequently for pain control in cats. The oral drug is considered off label use, but can be used under veterinary supervision. It can be given once a day for 3 days, then twice weekly for pain control. He'll be fine, but painful (even if he doesn't act painful--pets usually won't show it). Give him the last drop when he is due again, then call your vet in the morning and ask him if you should get more. We dispense it in little bottles and have the owner draw up the amount so this type of thing doesn't happen. Tell him to get those little 1.3ml red top blood collection tubes from his supplier--they are plastic with a screw on lid and are perfect for small drug amounts like this.

metacam is okay to give to your cat just when you have the right dosage for cats. It is an anti-inflammitory and it helps with pain. It would be best to call your vet back and tell him you need another bottle for the comfert of your cat.

DON'T GIVE YOUR CAT METACAM!!! IT MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR GIVING MY CATS KIDNEY DISEASE!!!!!!!! I AM SERIOUS. THIS STUFF SHOULD NOT BE PRESCRIBED FOR CATS!!! I WILL EMAIL YOU A LINK ABOUT THIS IF YOU ALLOW EMAIL. I WAS NATIOUS AFTER I READ THIS AFTER I HAD GIVEN IT TO THEM, AND SURE ENOUGH I TOOK THEM TO THE VET AND HAD A BLOOD PANEL TAKEN ON THEM AND THEY HAVE THE BEGINNING STAGES OF RENAL FAILURE AND THEY ARE ONLY 6 YEARS OLD! PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS TO YOUR KITTY. ALSO, DON'T KEEP GIVING THEM THEIR SHOTS AFTER THE FIRST YEAR BECAUSE THAT CAUSES KIDNEY FAILURE TOO. PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS. I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS. I AM A CAT LOVER AND I SERIOUSLY REGRET EVER GIVING THEM METACAM!
