I have always suffered because of love, is love the answer to why we suffer in life.

If you did not suffer, you would not know what peace, contentment and love truly are. Have you suffered throughout your loving relationships? Or only at the end? Or the unrequited ones? Was there never any joy reflected in the love? Ever?? If not, then you have not known love.
Love is the key to experiencing pure joy -- Unconditional love, that is. When you start to define it and put conditions to it, then yes, you will suffer. I wish I could help you ease your suffering, but only you can do that in changing the way you love.
