The modern world says "I don't want you to hurt and I don't want you to hurt anyone else." If that could happen then caring would not enter into the world. Yes, humans care too much, but certainly not enough. To care is to open yourself to pain and conversely. To say pain is bad is to say humans care too much. What is life if you cannot care, love, know passion and pain. Maybe that is more important than anything else we modern humans can do. Maybe we are just stupid enough in our intellect to want the very pain we try to avoid, the caring.

Caring for and caring about others are two different things. Caring about people is mostly non effective because it is only an emotion. That, and selfishness is where I believe people not caring enough to care FOR someone comes from. Because people use caring ABOUT others as an excuse not to DO something, and selfishness doesn't even THINK about someone else. Caring FOR others is action. Are you talking about caring for other people? I can see why you think caring for others causes pain, (because it is work...) but it is an illusion. If you didn't care for yourself, would you be well taken care of? (No, unless someone else took care of you). You not caring for other people and things actually causes you harm too, but in a less direct way, and may not even be evident except for in the long run...

Sometimes when we care we get hurt. But it is worth it. For some reason to care is satisfying to the soul. It makes us reach out beyond ourselves, wanting to help another human being. Deep down I believe we don't want to be selfish, hoarding everything for ourselves. By reaching out we give up a part of us. This is a good thing, even though some times people do not appreciate what we do. But keep reaching out, it will always come back to you in one form or another.

I love the way your questions challenge us. If you do not care, then you do not open your heart. If you do not open your heart, then what is the point of your existence? I think humans do not care enough, or they care about the wrong things, e.g., how much money they have or want to have, who they will destroy to get more (of anything) -- you know, your basic greedy, avaristic sense of humanity. Caring takes us beyond this. In a way, it defines our personal sense of humanity. Hell is a state of mind. Step out of it. Go to the other side -- trust me, the grass is much greener. . . .

You have something here.
Look at all the hatred religion creates, and why is that...because they are made to "care" about what others do, independant of what is done to them.
What business is it of any stupid ignorant religious nut to "care" about what I do if it doesnt harm you? Islam is literally a hate cult built on taking this nosey religious attitude found in Christianty, and giving it teeth.

Um...damnz ain't you a nihilist....anywayz, caring and passion is what makes up humans...so if you take away your emotions you just create a robot, and if you don't have passion, then you can make a logical choice that's morally wrong...so then that will cause even MORE damage...

I consider care being love, of which there isn't much in this world anymore, and that is one of the problems.
