It is a posture that shows humility and reverance. That God is an Almighty God and is much bigger than we are...it is a sign of respect not only in the Muslin culture but also in the Christian although it is not the only posture we can take when praying to the Lord.

I pray in more ways than I could list. Sometimes I do hunch over, and it is not because I am pretending to be humble. It is because I find it easier to stay focused and ignore the distractions around me.

They are showing humility and deference towards God by bowing down before Him.
Why did powerful rulers also request similar behaviors? It is a traditional symbol of deep respect and obedience, from the lesser servant to his Lord, when coming before the Lord in supplication.

It's a subservient posture, like when a dog lowers it's ears and puts it's tail between it's legs.
I often wonder why Muslims bend over when they pray. That's food for thought.

Everyone prays differently to express their respect and reverence to God.
And those that disrespect God show it by mocking people.

I asked this a while ago in church. I asked why we didnt look up if we were talking to god. I was told that we want to feel as if god is touching our head or putting his grace on us. Its a way of feeling that he is listening. You know how they touch someones head on them shows and go "YOU ARE HEALED"...thats how i kind of saw it as after that.
