I can't believe I'm asking such a dumb question on here.. but to put it into context for you:

I get very few weekends off throughout the year (one or two a month, if I'm lucky), I work 12 hour swing shifts and keep two residences.. one near home (with my dog, girlfriend, friends, etc) and one near my job 2-3 hours away.

On my last weekend off for the next two months (and my birthday weekend) my girlfriend wants to take me for half the weekend to see her family... fine. I said sure, didn't make a fuss about it.

A few days later I asked if I could be back by a certain time (5pm) Saturday night so we could try and get together with my friends. She didn't think my plans were solid enough and said that if I didn't make more solid plans she sees no reason to "rush" back home (her parents live a few hours away)... and I said I should be allowed to do what I want on my birthday, if it involves poorly made plans than so be it-she disagrees.

i think when its your birthday its your day and you should be able to do what you want, maybe your family and friends want to see you she sounds a bit selfish wanting it all her way , its different if it was her birthday sos but do what you want and enjoy

Hey, if you don't even want to go see her parents, don't. You aren't obligated to. It's YOUR birthday, YOUR day off, not hers, not her parents. If her parents want to visit to wish YOU a Happy Birthday and bring YOU a gift, cool.

It's your birthday. Do what you want. My fiance wants to throw me a big party for my birthday. I said if he did, he'd be partying by himself.

You are correct. Your birthday - your wishes. Everyone knows that except your girlfriend I guess.

So tell her that you were right and she was wrong.

Yes, it's your day, your preference takes priority, not hers.
