I watched the show satan, the truth or a hoaz on ABC at 10:00pm on thursday. It tells people about the orgin of satan, people experiencing hell. I'm a 17 year old witch,I'm just trying to keep and open mind and hopefully use this research to promoste religious tolerance. I know that Satanism is a Pagan religion, but Pagans are NOT Satanic. But ever since then I wanted to start my research without reading a bible or any religious scripture. I also found that the people believed to be possesed by the Devil are actors, people who want attention. I want to know where Satan came from, how did christians kno that he is evil. How did lucifer, the italian sun god, had a connection with him. i also researched that Early christians believed in reincarnation and worshipped a Goddess like pagans. It also said that Jesus spent three consecutive days in the purgatory. I want to find information to prove to others that Satan is BS, there is no reason to fear him.
Do you have any ideas on his exist?

I also found during the crusade battles and the spanish inquisition people burned not only witches but the Jews. and, in those days peopel use christianity and satan to control and scare people, i also found that Pan was falsely believed as satan either he was horned, or people are trying to convert to be pagans to other religions. I also found People have got into the pagan faith by will, but our anscestors were forced into the christian faith.
I DO NOT want to worship satan, I only want research, I want to find a way to get Christians and Witches to finally get along. To love each other. But Christians cannot prejudge pagans, because according to the Holy bible, Jesus taught us to judge noone. Is it tru that Christians and muslims are still enemies?

Satan is very real. All you have to do is turn on the new. He reveals himself everyday in the forms of rape, robberies, murder, war etc, etc, etc. The problem with our society is that we are to educated. Unless we see horns, a tail and a pitchfork, we don't believe that Satan is the source. Peace and God bless.

Romani, I've done a lot of research into the origins of Satan and evil in the Judeo/Christian tradition....
But for starters, Satanism is a Christian religion, not a pagan religion. LeVayan Satanists are actually humanists and atheists who use "Satan" to mock Christianity. And rightfully so, since neither God nor Satan actually exists, and they know it.
Concerning the origin of Satan, look into the meaning of the Hebrew word for "Satan" and how it was used prior to Satan's appearance in the Bible. Also take a look at the Babylonian captivity, where the Jews were introduced to dualism of opposing Good and Evil gods. You're notice that in books written after this captivity, namely Job, Chronicles, and Zachariah, are the only places in the Old Testament that Satan is even mentioned. In Job, he's just a literary character. And in Chronicles, Satan has actually switched places with God in a retelling of an earlier story found in II Samuel.
Also check out Reginald Scot's A Discoverie of Witchcraft. He was one of the first scholars (in the 16th century) to explain that allegations of witchcraft and demonic possession were actually cases of mental illness. Of course, King James I had the book burned, but it was published a second time after his death and is currently available today in reprint.
For the origins of hell, (and keep in mind that the New Testament actually has three concepts which are translated into English as "hell") investigate the tophet, a pit outside Jerusalem where human sacrifice used to take place.

He does indeed exists and he is evil. If you want to know the truth pick up your bible. Everything you need to know about him and where he came from is in there. Satan was once the leader of worship in heaven and then decided that he wanted to be exalted above the almighty God and was at that point sent from heaven with 1/3 of the angels that he fooled into following him. There will come a day when if you don't read it for yourself that you and all of us will see for ourselves that there is a heaven and a hell, a God and a devil. When you die you will spend eternity somewhere the only question now is where???

I'm interested in the ability that some people have to deny the existance of one supernatural entity whilst believing in another. If Gaea exists, then how not the devil? What makes you determine that Satan is constructed and paganism any less?
This is not a trivial question, by the way. You have already engaged in some deductive process to decide that Satan is 'not real' (is that the same as 'not living' or 'not existing'?). So, could you use the same process of sifting the evidence for determining whether ANY belief in a supernatural deity or structure is purely constructed and therefore as artificial?

Satanic bible, Temple of Set
Both great sources for research. Just because you want to educate yoursef doesn't mean you believe in whatever it is you're reading. Most people are stupid and cannot understand that.
Satanists are not atheists... atheists believe in no god, no divinity, nothing. If you believe in the existance in satan you simply must believe in god because that's where it came from. Its like saying i believe in Odin, but not thor. Makes no sense. Satanists believe in either what satan stood for and believe he did the right thing to revolt against god, or simply that they need to start thinking for themeselves and follow satans teaching though they reject both. It's possible that they support satanic phylosophy but again reject divinity which pretty much turns them into atheists. However, you cannot say that atheists are satanists directly, it's more of an individual belief than anything.

Not ALL Satanists are atheistic. I am a Satanist and believe very strongly in the presence of Satan. I KNOW He exists, and devote myself fully to His infernal service. Do you believe in god? If so, then by definition, you must believe in Satan. The two define each other. Without darkness, there can be no light.
As to learning about religion, you can talk to any number of people, all of whom will give you conflicting answers. Reading their texts may give you a more unified idea, but will never give you a complete picture.
I cannot disagree enough with your rather rude assumption that Satan is "BS," but you're right, there is no reason to fear Him. He is no more or less evil than the xtian god. Good and evil come from the believers, not the deities.

When you play with fire you usually get burned. I admire your want to bring the witches and Christians together, but it is two totally different worlds. If you believe in Christ then witches and the things they do are way out of line. They may be or seem like good people, but Christianity is incompatible with witchcraft or satanism.

I wouldn't refer to satanism as a pagan religion because as you noted the pagans aren't satanic in nature. Try to keep your definitions in the clear so that you don't step on anyone's toes.
A whole bunch of gods and godesses got absorbed by the church as the Roman empire abosrbed other lands. They coopted these lands houses of worship, often placing the cross alongside of their idols and slowly converted them away and over to christianity. In doing so they had to place their previous gods and goddesses someplace in the divine world. Fallen angels was a convenient story.

Satanists are not pagans.
Satanists are an offshoot of Christianity, which is an offshoot of Judaism.
Thus, Satanism is an Abrahamic religion. Like Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
JoelyMoley, Loki is not another name for Satan, it's another name for YHVH.

The Bible is where he started as (Lucifer). He was an angel and wanted to be God. I dont see how you can do a research paper about the orgin of satan when it tells you that in the Bible, but you dont want to read the Bible.
