I think the person may not have all the facts, and I provide them with another perspective to consider.
If they continue to hold their beliefs, that's their choice. All I can ever do is present the information and ask them to consider all sides before reaching their conclusions.
For the record, my dad landed on the beach at Normandy (twice, his boat was sunk on the first run in), and my brother served as an embassy guard overseas during Desert Storm.

My Grandfather fought against the Nazis. Personally It depends on what they're praising with Hitler. Most things about the Nazis are deplorable. Anti-semitism/racism, eugenics (human breeding), 'euthanasia' of 'undesirables', and socialism top my list of things not to like about the Nazis. Governmental support for a cultural heritage and transportation infrastructure, emphasis on science and research (if not done unethically), and sacrificing for the greater good of society are things that the Nazis also encouraged which are generally good for any society.
The Nazis were defeated over a half century ago. It is time to stop looking at them as the big bad boogey men that we should fear and revile, and look at them as people who made some serious mistakes and let us learn from these mistakes. People in the US are beginning to make some of the same mistakes that Germany made in the 1930's. If we don't learn from the mistakes of the past, it will happen again here in the US.
The idea that unpopular ideas must be suppressed, and the idea that the free market is bad and government regulation is the cure for all ills; are both cancers that will push the US into NAZI-like tyranny. They won't wear swastikas or march with the goose-step, but our long cherished freedoms will disappear overnight just the same.

I always thought there was no such thing as a stupid question - now I know different.
My Dad (on a destroyer in the Pacific - Midway, Coral Sea and a couple of others) fought for my right to have an opinion that DOESN'T match yours. My Dad fought for the rights of people to have opinions, and vocalize them, even if they are the most hateful things that have ever been said.
Dad says - if they are saying them in the light of day, we know who to watch; if we drive them underground they could explode like a volcano and overrun us all.
Being against the war isn't belittling our troops - it is being against the war and wanting our young men and women home and not fighting another impossible war like Vietnam - where many of my friends died or were changed forever.
We should never get involved in other countries' internal affairs when we aren't invited. I don't want anyone helping me in my home - just because they think I need it.
I wish everyone who thinks we should be in Iraq would enlist - then maybe we wouldn't have the "backdoor" draft and you'd be putting your money (or, in this case, your backside) where your mouth is - FYI - extended tours of duty, revoked release dates, recall of National Guard units time after time is a draft - no matter what name we use.
I wish you would listen, really listen, instead of name calling and spewing platitudes.
Peace

i might say merely approximately all of them. back then human beings have been patriotic. back then human beings volunteered. back the, whilst human beings did no longer see their accountability to volunteer, the government gently jogged their reminiscence by drafting them. Even those with out kinfolk interior the militia have been affected. back then human beings supported the infantrymen. They went with out gas so the troops does no longer might desire to. They recycled rubber so militia autos might have tires. They recycled steel so there might sufficient for kit. human beings did no longer stress great pickups and SUVs, the walked, used a bicycle, or perhaps public transportation.... or they only stayed domicile. With maximum folk of the lads going to conflict, the girls individuals took up the slack in industry. back then almost anybody became in contact interior the conflict attempt. at present, regrettably, human beings make up excuses for no longer doing their accountability. some nonetheless see their accountability. yet maximum are content thinking that somebody of their kin in the final 3 or 4 generations did their accountability for them. to those individuals who belong to the latter team, the subsequent time you bypass to eating place and order a hamburger, decline to pay based on the actuality that throughout the time of all hazard a dozen or so human beings an afternoon order an analogous factor... and that they have already paid so which you may desire to no longer might desire to pay lower back.

It's a sad state of affairs when people don't learn from history. Either they praise Hitler out of ignorance or because they actually think that he was right. Either way it makes me a bit angry to hear about it, but there isn't much to be done about it. If they praise him out of ignorance, perhaps hearing the truth would settle matters, but if they believe him to be right, no amount of talking is going to change their mind.

I think they're morons. My dad is 84 and beat up an Iraqi war veteran at the VFW for swearing in front of my mom. Anyone who fought in WW2 is part of the greatest generation ever.

It makes me sad that two generations after defeating the Nazis we may just possibly have to fight them again.
My father, uncles and grandfather all fought in WW2 (and Korea) to defend democracy and freedom of speech. but not so that Nazis could undermine those institutions in pursuit of power by the back door.

They have the right to praise Hitler and hate our troops... just like they have the right to get the hell out of my country! God bless America.
p.s. Patti, no one said anything about being antiwar, and nobody was name calling. sounds like someone is feeling guilty.

I think they are pathetic and they do not realize just how had they had to fight in order for us not to speak German or Japanese today!
