Can this be done via the cmd line? Or do I need a third-party application?

I dont want to see certain programs keep popping up etc but I still want them to run.

Sorry, I meant completely in the background, as in the only way you can see it is via task manager.

Ang, I know it's possible. As for doing it through the command line, I don't know. I know there are some properties that may be helpful but you're likely gonna need a software product to make them well behaved.

A program should automatically run in the background when you select another one to be active. If a background program pops up, then it is usually looking for a response from the user. If you need to force it into the background then the cmd line will be the most effective method but I'm out of touch with the commands so try the help command.
