Having been in construction for years, I know the quality of work illegals do. It takes 3 illegals to do what 1 trained white guy can do. The amount of money spent to do "pick up " work behind these guys is amazing. Concrete work is especially funny when illegals try it. It looks like tJ. We will get back to 35 dollars an hour soon I belive, the final costs will not go up as a result of better quality and production.

Sounds like a gross exaggeration or a disingenuous way of justifying your outrageous pay.

BTW, they aren't leaving.

I too have been in construction for a long time, exceeding 50 years, and I see a number of things which have to happen before quality goes up.
One, the worker has to display some "pride in workmanship" which is rare today.
Two, the building codes in many area's have to be more strictly enforced and modernized. Example. here where I live in Northern Ohio, it is no longer part of the code in multi family dwellings to have a fireproof or fire retarding wall between units, this was a law that has been taken of the books in request by builders, all for the sake of a few dollars. The homeowner suffers by little protection and higher insurance rates.
Three, being with the construction union for this long time, I would say the unions have to give more slack when it comes to demands and try to lower cost without sacrificing quality, it can be done in many ways.
And next, any contractor hiring these labor rate cutting illegals, should themselves be thrown in jail, and those in congress allowing these illegals in the first place should be given prison sentences and thrown out of politics.
Racist? I think not, common sense.

There are no jobs Americans don't want to do. Hiring illegals is a way for businesses to drive wages and benefits into the ground. It is very sad when construction businesses hire illegals and non union workers because the workmanship is shoddy and leads to many problems. There have been many cases of illegals who don't read or speak English installing things upside down or inside out or ignoring written warnings on products which impacts the homeowner negatively. I wouldn't buy a house built by illegals. So La Mojado admits he is hiring illegals which is against the US immigration and workplace laws. I will flag his answer so that Yahoo can ping his IP address and raid his business to get all those hard-working illegals sent back to Mexico where they belong. Maybe if they go back to their country, all their hard work would go to making Mexico a better country and not the third world hole it is now.

Back to the who will do it,There are a lot of hard illegals workers, they have learned to do a lot on construction jobs Different ways of building. The difference the employers hire them at sub wages pay workman comp.taxes in others names. The cost of the job is the same price the difference is quality & the emp==puts the exrta money in his pocket. Citizens are out of work the quality is ? if excepatable usually won't pass code. With enforcement of our laws when all state are together. Our work force will come back an the illegals will be out of work. With employer fines they won't hire illegals, The prision in some states are using the prisioners for field workers.FRAUD doc will be a problem for a while.

The quality of American homes is a joke. How can you build a house in 3 months. I quess I am old fashioned but I live in an apt. that is over 107 years old. I will bet it will still be standing when those $400,000. quick built homes are a pile of dust. Of course my place is in Europe. Man y people build their own homes here and they are made with at least a foot of brick on a solid foundation.I used to own a home in L.A., Cal. It was built in 1956. It was framed in redwood but when you crawled under the house it was amazing that it was still standing. So many cracks in the foundation, one more earthquake and it is all over. It is all about the fast dollar.

Well if you think that illegals do a better job why don't you pay for them to live here we have taxes that we pay for them living here, and i have worked with plenty of illegals and that are lazy maybe not all but the ones i worked with was they acted like no understand but they could speak it before they got there job. I know plenty of them that should be taken back. And another thing that illegal most work better than you,but in every race there is people who are lazy so why put the white people down hell we do everything for them now. Get me a bus and I'll take them back, but you can go with them since they are so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in construction also, so I am not sure it is just illegals as you as that do crappy work. I see it more as "not my house I don't care" attitude from many different people in many different fields of construction. I have watched it and can see there are many who take pride in their work no matter if they are from here of Mexico. I have also watched white men (I am a white women) do crappy work because they want to hurry up and go to TD's and speed their pay check on the strippers. I go through and fix people mistakes myself, and it is everyone from every race. I also think that the mass production out these subdivisions add to the problems in the homes. You rush to get three different homes done in 3 months, there is a bunch of room for mistakes and lack of give a sh--.

Probably, I'll tell you the story of a factory that closed locally.

The place made steel re-bar (reinforcements for sidewalks and roads) and made a good profit from it (3 million annually) It shut down and moved so it could replace the union workers with illegals. They took 1 local worker with them (he was a repair guy that they couldn't replace) 3 years later he moved back to town, we asked him what happened. It turns out the illegal workers made such a low quality product that the other companies stopped ordering from them and the place went out of business.

The moral of this story is that this companies own greed destroyed it.

I would imagine insurance costs would also drop, to maybe over all costs will drop as a result.

People say that illegals do jobs that Americans won't do. That is ridiculous, in my opinion. The wage might have to go up, but someone will do it. It's economics, plain and simple. We will survive, and probably come out much stronger as a result.

Ive been In construction for over 25 years, and there are definitely too many unqualified ILLEGALS In our trade. There are some that know what their doing, but not very many. The worst ones are the carpenters/framers,followed by the masons (concrete work) Most of them CANNOT read a blueprint, and It shows In their work. I would NOT buy a new home, unless I built It myself,Or had It custom built by a UNION CONTRACTOR. ********You get what you pay for*******

I work with my parents to do architectural decoration for houses...you can make assumptions all you want but you never worked with them...a subcontractor will NEVER pay their guys more than $8-10 for doing drywall, stucco, framing, roofing so would you rather have people work for you that WANT to work or some American who is in the bottom of society and spends their money at a liquor store every Friday afternoon after they cash their checks....no illegal is going to do plumbing, electrician or inspection jobs...I dont know if you know but there are inspections that houses have to pass after they are built and no company will go beyond meeting the requirement for inspection...

I work in 2-5 million dollar houses in Tampa Bay and let me tell you how many times the owner or the general contractor told me they fired some American guy because hes late or wont show up....

____________________________
I agree that you can definitely find better skilled guys but they usually do cabinetry, windows, tile work and you shouldn't cheap out on that stuff for workers because those sell a house but you dont need the most skilled person to hold a nail-gun and put up baseboards or cut drywall...these mega construction companies dont really care who does the grind work because thats where they save money....they cant save money on electrical or plumbing because the code is so strict.
