Every one- They can't afford to take the cat to the vet! Duh!
I would say to buy special tweezers and pluck it out carefully, or ask a specialist how to remove it, if nothing works, but some sort of non-toxic gell where it is and wait a few hours, the grub or tick will come up for air because it can not breath in it.
Good luck to you and your kitty!

It can be removed but you will have to be very careful.
First you will need a few things, gauze, tape, towels, peroxide, Q-tips, liquid benadrl, eyedroppers, tweezers, rubbing acohol and another person to help hold your cat.
First you will need to give your cat a small amount of the benadrl( as you don't say how big your cat is) just give it a few drops, you don't want to OD the poor thing just mellow it out. After your cat is clam wrap it tightly in a towel , not too tight that it can't breathe, just so it can't get away.
Using a eye dropper, put a few drops of the peroxide on the wound,to loosen & soften any scab that might have formed, using the rubbing acohol & a Q-tip, clean the tweezers before using to remove any scabing. Then place a few drops of peroxide in the wound, cleaning with another Q-tip continue a few times using a clean Q-tip each time.
After doing this 5-6 times, take the tweezers and gently probe the wound to see if you can find then remove the
grub(s) .Once you remove them add a few more drops of peroxide to the wound and cover with gauze.Keep the cat inside. You will need to keep cleaning the wound and keep it open by removing the scab and cleaning twice a day letting it heal from the inside out until healed. If you feel you can not comit to doing this thencall your local vet, most will work with you and you can make payment arangements. Good luck I hope this helps.

Dear Lorie-
You need to take the cat to the vet. That grub is just as dangerous to you as it is the cat.
That grub belongs to a notorious pest called a Bot Fly. These things are really nasty, and they also attack livestock such as pigs, cattle, horses and other barnyard animals. In pigs its also called a Screw Worm.
It builds a toxic cyst in the animals skin tissue. In this cyst is all of the worms waste, and when it bursts a large black fly will emerge from it. The problem is that these flys don't care whether its live stock or human.
The fly has a sharp egg probe and they land on their victim whiel they are asleep and lay the egg under the surface of the skin. The grub grows feeding in the surrounding tissue.
These things can kill animals if left untreated. So you need to get to your vet ASAP and get this thing carved out of your cat.
This also means that you are near a farm that is not spraying for insect pests. You need to locate that farm and report this to the US Department of Agriculture, along with your vet report so they can take proper action.
I hope that helped you out. Sorry to hear about the kitty!

I cleaned the area with peroxide, then got some tweezers out. Then I watched the little bugger start popping out of the hole then I sqweezed it enough to get a good grip on the grub and pulled it out. It was white, then I flushed it down the drain with hot water. Then I cleaned the cats neck with antibiotics. Gonna clean the area for a few days to make sure it is healing ok.

First of all you need to determine what it is,it could be a tick, if it is you can use heat to remove it,a lit cigarette works best. Put the hot end close to the body, not on it , if it's a tick it will remove it's head from the cats body then you can kill it.If you own any animal you should be able to afford a vet, it's not fair to the animal if you can't.

It is called a cuterebra--a fly maggot. Carefully remove it with a tweezer, but be careful not to squish it as that can cause an allergic reaction. Flush the hole with a dilute betadine solution, and apply a topical antibiotic ointment, like neosporin. They don't usually become infected, and will heal quickly.

I have never done that before, but when I was a child I watched my mom get a ring worm out of her favorite cats neck. She wrapped the cat so it couldn't fight and my brother helped her. She used turpentine and opened the wound and pored it into it. She then squeezed it underneath so it would come out. She did it a few times because there was eggs from the worm in it. The cat lived and had a small scar on its neck. Before anyone jumps me or what she did...I am a older person and vets where few and far inbetween. Many of us country folks did our own doctoring even to our selves.

a grub in its neck??? i doubt it is a grub- grubs eat the roots of your plants. you better find out what it is for sure--clean it with betadine or something like that, and antibiotics- you can get the antibiotics at a feed store. the problems w/ wounds on the animals if they are outside- flies will lay eggs and they will get maggots in the wound. so you better find some way to take it to a vet---look up for low cost clinics. spay.org will give you some, and they do more than just spay/neuter.
