hi

my daughter asked me to take a look @ her car stereo. i consider myself handy but i don't know the 1st thing about getting started on this one.

the issue is there's no display on the head unit. i googled and found a manual. the troubleshooting section says check the fuse if you've got no display. great! BUT!!! where is the fuse? i've got a meter to check continuity but don't know where/what fuse to check. the cd mechanism works because i can insert/eject a cd. there's also no radio or sound. it's dark!

the radio is a kenwood kdc-mp628.

appreciate your help :-)

From the description you just gave. I can tell you now you are going to have to remove the deck. unplug the wiring harness and open the deck up. It's an internal fuse inside the CD Player. The reason I say that is because if you have no power, because of a fuse blown from the fuse block or an inline fuse holder then you would not be able to insert or eject the CD. I wouldn't open it unless the radio is out of warranty. If it is out of warranty check the for the fuse inside on the board.

I hope this has helped you out a little bit.

Probably an inline fuse holder if not powered through the fuse box---have to pull the radio and check the power wires---there may be two. See how the power wires (red) are run---if they go to the vehicles wiring or fuse box and if there's an inline fuse holder on either of them.

the fuse box for the whole car should be under the stering wheel look in the cars manual for where the fuse box is there will be a diagram to tell you witch fuse is for radio probably on the plastic you have to remove to get to the fuses. good luck
