Leave the ceiling as it is (white). For the walls you could make them the same colour, or you could paint one side of the wall a different or more darker colour than what you regularly chose. I have that done in my living room, and it looks awesome.

Most people do paint ceilings white. If you use a darkish colour that is the same as your walls it gives the effect of lowering the ceiling thereby making the room seem smaller. Some like this because it feels cosier.
You could also paint the ceiling using a lighter shade of the walls.
If you're trying to save money and you think your colour is too dark for the ceiling you could paint the walls first then add white to the leftover until you get a good shade for the ceiling.

Painting the walls and ceiling the same color is very "in"
right now. If the wall color is very dark or deep, though,
I would paint the ceiling a lighter shade of the wall color,
from the same sample card. We did this in our master
bedroom, and it had a multi-level tray ceiling, we used
4 different shades of the same paint color off the same
sample chip. It came out great!

Don't paint them the same color. If you want them similar paint the ceiling a shade or two lighter than the walls.

Paint the ceilings eggshell white. It will brighten the room by reflecting light. Paint the walls any other color.

that is a personal taste issue, some people like a contrast with a white ceiling, others prefer all one color there are no set rules. I personally think all one color makes the whole area look bigger.

Depends on how dark a shade you are using on the walls and how high your ceiling is.

go for two different colors since it's a big room and sounds dramatic. might as well take advantage of that ..... if one color turns out to be "off" and no so attractive with the other, no big deal, simply paint everything one color. no risk, no reward. one color of course is faster and safer/simpler
