cold water is the best first aid when you burn yourself - 20 minutes under the tap is ideal. NEVER ice or vinegar or milk or butter or green tea or mustard or toothpaste or sunscreen or semen or vaseline or tomatoes or vanilla extract or yogurt or sour cream or egg white or lavender oil or cocoa butter or salt or tea bags or potato or shaving cream or olive oil or baking soda or banana peel or petroleum jelly or whipped cream or avocado or bacon grease or corn starch or tumeric or lemon juice or curd or pickle juice or soy sauce - not until the skin is fully healed!
alcohol might help with the pain but it is a serious risk as it will dehydrate you - so don't drink any. ibuprofen or aspirin will help but larger burns are often accompanied by stomach ulcers, so tylenol/panadol is best for pain if you are gonna tough it out. drink plenty of water or energy drinks that don't have caffeine (gatorade)
i would advise that you cover the burnt area with white soft paraffin (white petroleum) or aqueous cream bp. (check the links below and see if you can find a local equivalent). wash the burn and reapply every 4-6 hours - cover with cling wrap if you wish to cover with clothes - this will stop your clothes getting covered with paraffin and maintains the burn.
cling wrap alone is ok if you can't get hold of any paraffin. it also acts as a protective artificial skin - helping retain moisture and protect from further damage and pain. cling wrap is cheap and clean off the roll. in Australia ambulances often use this when someone has been burnt. - please note that cling wrap isn't always practical, like on your face.
the paraffin imitates the natural oils, creating a seal stopping water leaving the body and reduces pain by protecting sensitised nerves. both of these factors improve healing - good stuff stays in, bad stays out - that is one job of healthy skin. aloe is good coz it remoisturises but that moisture can be quickly lost as the skin can't contain fluids. so put aloe on, and then the paraffin on over the top. if there is broken skin leave out the aloe - just paraffin.

Do not use anything on it other than cold or cool water, or a cold pack. No ice, aloe, vegetables, creams, ointments, etc. Most of these will either make things hurt worse by sealing in the heat, or are just awkward ways to cool it off.
Some over-the-counter pain killer will help- aspirin, etc. whatever you like.
Its been more than a few hours since the injury now. If it is still hurting, and you have been doing cold water and aspirin, then it is time to see the ER or minor medical clinic. It will cost you a ton, but if it is still hurting it is worth it.
By the way- using ice is a common reason small burns still hurt- the ice itself is a problem after a little bit.

Ice, ice water, and otherwise cold water. That's it! You can OBVIOUSLY take an over the counter painkiller, but ... burns hurt, even minor burns, hurt a lot! I have no idea what cream you plan on using, but in general creams and ointments are considered "no no's" for burns; so, MAKE SURE that it is without a doubt a cream intended for BURNS, and not just for other types of injuries.
IF the pain gets too bad, maybe you should consider the ER.

Sorry, Nicole, it will hurt today despite anything you will do... Take some pain killer. Do not use ice - you might worsen the problem. If your burn just a first degree (redness of the skin), you can use some urine (and I am not kidding), just let it cool of before applying - this is old folks remedy. If you have blisters, put some antibiotic ointment and cover it with clean cloth.
If it look worse than 2nd degree - seek medical help. Good luck and I wish you painless night.
PS By the way, in addition to tomato you can use shredded potato or cucumber.

try some nurofen or other antiinflammatory. i don't suppose you have an aloe vera plant in the house- if so- break off abit and rub on the burn. if not, buy one for next tme ( there WILL be a next time!) otherwise take any mild painkiller. good luck

make a layer of toothpaste on it.It will help a lot.
and an other thing that can work is take a cold potato and just put a piece of it on the area it will also work.

Jampetpaul is right. Aloe is the answer. They sell an aloe gel that is wonderful for burn. You can get it at a drug store or most supermarkets. Buy it and keep it in the refrigerator.

If you have a tomato in the house, slice a piece of it and place it directly on the burn. It sounds strange, but i'm telling you it will ease the pain and prevent blistering.
