INDIA (Newsroom) – Six Christian missionaries participating in a gospel campaign called "Love Ahmedabad" were beaten so savagely in the state of Gujarat last week that one of the men may lose his arms and legs.

Members of the Hyderabad-based Operation Mobilization (OM) were distributing Bibles and religious tracts in Ahmedabad, about five miles from Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, the afternoon of May 5 when they were attacked by members of the Hindu extremist groups Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Operation Mobilization ships tons of Christian literature around the country. The assailants also burned copies of the Bible and tracts.

Christian missionaries beaten in public for 'converting' Hindus

Television channels showed Hindu activists kicking and punching the two young priests while dragging them through Maharashtra's Kolhapur town.

News footage showed an activist knee one priest in the groin, making him double up in pain. Another kicked the missionary in the head. The crowd accused the priests of forcibly converting poor Hindus, and handed them over to police.

They can't keep people from the truth with their false gods, so they have to resort to violence. It is the same with Islam. They have to use violence to impose their views.

Evey religion has extremists. The ones of the Hindu/Buddhist religions are much less prevalent than the Abrahamic religions though. I am a Christian and I lived in a very Buddhist country (Thailand) and never once felt threatened. It's sad that this happens, but it should in now way reflect religions that teach peace and enlightenment.

Your quotes somewhat answer your own question. One news story describes the Hindus as "extremists." Another describes the attackers as believing that the Christian victims were forcibly converting people. "Forcibly converting" is not the same as "spreading the word." Another article mentions that religion has been mixed with politics... at which point you certainly cannot ask the question as if religion is the only facet of the issue.

It's not just a religion thing but a culture thing as well. In the areas around India Hindus are known to attack Muslims as well, seeing them as invading outsiders.

Christians view themselves as well-meaning, but their approaches are frequently culturally threatening.

I'm sri lankan and I'm buddist so I can actually tell you about the biased tamil net quote you are using.
1. You have no idea what is going on in Sri lanka so listening on one side is never enough.
2. You just want to make the muslims look good. Get over your self. Muslims are the most extream lot of ppl around. They start wars and they kill ppl.
3. Buddhism never condones murder and we have no god. It's a philosophy of how to live not a worship of god.
4. The quote you have obtained is from Tamilnet which is run by tamil terrorist tigers who are ruining our country with civil war. thousands have died not in the name of religion but for greed and power.

to the answerer above me, keep in mind this is in India. In this case, the Hindus were acting in defense. Hindus never go on the offense, forcibly converting Chrisitans or Muslims into their religion. Hindus don't even believe in conversion.

Any lama worth his/her weight in salt, i.e. actually teaches and supports what the Buddha REALLY taught, will tell you adamantly that anyone who causes real harm and suffering is NOT a Buddhist.

What these people are getting a result from, though, is people who are tired of getting pushed around. People are people first and if they're so inclined, will cut and paste from any text to support their agenda. Sound familiar? Like the cut and paste job you've just done?

Altruism, compassion, patience, wisdom...

"They are…… forcibly trying to convert people to Buddhism and forcing people to kneel down to declare Buddha is our god! Read about it"

They must not be true Buddhists, because as far as I know, they don't believe Buddha is God.

Guess that'll teach them not to preach and force the word of their "god" on others, huh.
