I grew up on Long Island am now 25. I have always loved NYC and spent as much time as I could there. Long Island is nice, but there is absolutely nothing to do. My fiance of 4 years who just broke up with me lived there and as long as I dated her, I spent a lot of time there, and I absolutely fell in love with the prospect of living in the city, the only thing is I can't afford it right now. What are the pros and cons of living there, I know I wouldn't need my car anymore.

Here the pros and cons of living in NYC
(+) The food and restaurants
(+) The entertainment (theaters)
(+) New people to meet in the Big Apple
(+) Always something to do
(+) Transportation - you can walk, taxi, or bus/subway to any area of the city you want
(+) The nightlife, activities to do in NYC (shows, concerts, parks, shopping, etc.)
(-) The prices are skyhigh (ex. $1,500 for a studio by yourself)
(-) The noise (it depends on how close to the traffic you live)
(-) If you have a car, parking is difficult and expensive
(-) Some people in NYC are not friendly and have a nasty attitude
(-) Rush hour congestion...you can feel like a sardine in a crowded bus, subway station or subway car. If your taking a cab, you never know how bad traffic can be
Hope it helps

Pros....everything is pretty close and in walking distance so like you said, you wouldn't need a car. You never run out of people to talk to. If you're a night person, you'll be right at home.
Cons....It's so expensive!!! Even the smallest apartment will run you probably 2K a month. There's never any quiet time. You're enclosed so if you're claustophobic, that could be a problem. Pollution and dirt. Rude people sometimes. Crime.
I love NYC, too, but I would never want to live there.

The cons would probably be noise and exorbitant rents. The pros are endless.

Seattle is an overall great place to live--if it wasn't, it wouldn't be so pricey! There are lots of cool museums, coffee shops, buildings, restaurants, pubs, parks, and shops. It is also close to lakes, islands, and mountains. Cons? I'd say the worst thing is traffic! I take the bus into work so I don't have to deal with it too much. It's no LA, but traffic's gotten pretty bad (especially hwy 520 over Lake Washington). Pretty sure the suicide thing is a myth and is not true for Washington in general (Colorado and Nevada have higher suicide rates on record). The weather is mild overall. It rarely gets below 35 in winter and doesn't usually get higher than 85 in the summer. Except for July through Sept, it can be cloudy most of the year with bits of sunshine mixed in. Precipitation can be common, but it's usually intermittent and light (I don't find it that bothersome). NYC and Atlanta actually get more rainfall per year. If you need San Diego sunshine every day, Seattle's probably not the best choice. Another thing to keep in mind is that the amount of daylight varies dramatically between the summer and winter months. On Dec 21, the sun rises at around 7:30am and sets around 4:15pm. On June 21, the sun rises at 5am and sets around 9pm. If you like music, coffee, beer, art, technology, outdoors, and good food, this is your place!
