I don't know but it is inaccurate to do so. Lazarus lived. Yes. But the story of the Rich Man & Lazarus makes no sense when taken literally. Some use it as proof of the existence of a burning hell. Well ask yourself... considering the distance between heaven and hell, does it make sense that someone could reach out and hand someone a drop of water? Does it make sense, if in fact that drop of water made it into hell that it would survive said fiery furnace and not evaporate before doing the rich man any good?

Jesus spoke in parables so people could understand, but each parable conveys a message that Jesus wants people to know.

When Jesus spoke in parables, the characters of the parable remained unnamed. When He referred to someone by name, or called them, for instance, "a certain man", He was relating an actual occurance.

The reality and truth of a parable might as well be taken literally since the force of it is the same.

the belief of the parables is they make a element, there's a ethical to the story. this is this element, this ethical, it is substantial, no longer the story itself. like the story of the tortoise and the hare, the belief of the story is that 'gradual and stable wins the race'. whether it actual got here approximately or no longer isn't substantial. i understand some Christians (fundamentalists) who have faith that all of the parables might desire to be actual because of the fact they're interior the Bible, and each little thing interior the Bible must be actual. they think that, so who am I to tell them this is incorrect? this is merely no longer the element of the thoughts. the element of this tale is merely to coach that being wealthy does not get you into heaven. yet sure, i think of a few of this language became meant to be figurative. Abraham's bosom working example. And diverse areas of the hot testomony seem to conflict as to in case you bypass to heaven correct away or after Judgement Day. undergo in strategies, Jesus stated to the stable Thief "on the present time you would be with me in Paradise". The request for Lazarus to dip his finger in water and drip it on the wealthy guy's tongue is obviously figurative. it is the very smallest convenience a man or woman might desire to as for whilst status in flames. He did no longer ask for a drink of water, merely one single drop. additionally, 'Father Abraham' is the father of three religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. it is why those are called the Abrahamic kin of religions. Christians have faith they have inherited Abraham's covenant with God. As for the call Lazarus, i detect it very interesting that Lazarus is a Greek sort of an previous Egyptian call Osirus. Osirus became an Egyptian god prevalent hundreds of years until now Jesus lived, who became introduced back from the ineffective!

Parable; story or allegory with a moral.
There is nothing to say that it did or did not physically happen, that is not the point of it. There is a lesson to be leaned from it: if you live your entire life dealing out evil to others then you will receive evil in return, if you do good then you shall be rewarded, but you must still receive Jesus as Lord and Savior to receive that good.
Even those that say Lord, Lord, but do not the things that please Him will be punished. The eternal lake of fire is a literal place.

Because the Fundies (fundamentalists) "Believe" in a literal Bible, and do not have the imagination to understand that God could speak to man in man's language. Nor do they have the ability to read and understand the Bible, and what Jesus said about parables...

Christians make a joke out of revelation and obedience to God.
It is a faith that is teetering on disintegration.
