But how many of you would happily torture, kill, and condemn to eternal torment just because they didn't listen to you?

Good question ... I never looked at it that way.
I don't think God condemns people to hell - people condem themselves.
I don't think anyone is "doomed" until judgment and you are standing before God and Jesus explaining yourself. I think for many people that explanation will be something along the lines of, "Well it just seemed to fantastic to believe in you. Way to SciFi channel."

Hopefully that will be an acceptable answer - I think it will be very hard to hang onto Atheist beliefs when you are faced with the man.

Of course I have absolutely no proof of this - it is simply my opinion. But I would like to think a loving and merciful God would not send someone to hell just for not believing.

What do you mean? You know what the punishment was, right. That they would die an earthly death. That doesn't mean that their children couldn't reattain paradise and eternal life through how they act in their very short life. Also we can't say that because their children also sinned. Do you not remember Cain, and after that their descendants sinned and there were none righteous except Noah and then after that the residents of Babel disobeyed God and tried to make themselves a great tower and city and from there there has not been one without sin. So because there are none without sin we can't complain about that. If there was one perfect who knows if they would still have to live under this punishment.

Romans 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."

16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."

18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills. 19 You will say to me then, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?"

20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, "Why have you made me like this?" 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honored use and another for dishonorable use? 22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory-- 24 even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?

First off God doesn't "happily" terrorize us as a matter of fact hes not the one the devil is. So with that known you would know the parent doesn't torture the kid but the world does because of the child's decision. Therefore the child get the consequences of the world! But nice try! :)

No YOU are for not reading the reply... I said the WORLD tortures the child not the parents. So much for Atheists being smart :)

Oh speaking of smart I noticed all Atheist answer had high rating while Christians got ZERO. Just lets you know how open-minded and understanding Atheists are... Very Very sad!

The so-called right-wing would love that--just listen to them. And they appointthemselves "in loco parantis" anytime they think they can get away with it.

Not real Christians. That "you have to believe as I believe" BS isn't what Christ taught--in fact He condemned that view, repeatedly.

Even if my kid said that I didn't exist, I wouldn't punish them. Even if they said "I hate you." I guess I'm not very godlike :(
