My parents had a BBQ yesterday and about 35 people showed up. A lot of people brought stuff to eat even though it wasn't asked of them. One couple brought a cheese cake. hey were one of the first people to leave and took the last two slices home with them. Everyone else stayed until late into the night and many people had asked, after the couple left, if there was any of that cheese cake left. Was it rude for them to take it back home with them?

I don't think it was rude but they should have left the remaining pieces. They could have asked the host/hostess for a plate or dish to put them on.

I don't know if it was rude, but it was certainly weird and silly. It would make more sense to me to just leave whatever food they brought there. You don't bring food to a party to take it back afterwards, you bring it in order to be nice and to add something to the party. I can understand that they wanted their plate back if it was on a plate of theirs, but they should have left the rest of the cake there. It's silly to want it back.

It would be a different story if everyone left at the same time and there was a lot of left-overs and the host suggested that people would take the left-overs back with them so they would end up in the bin, but walking out in the middle of a party with left-overs... that's one strange idea.

I would not have brought it back home. However a cheese cake is something that could go bad and they probably didnt want it to go to waste. sometimes the host will ask people to bring stuff home because they do not want waste.
I would say it would have rude to take it home without first saying something the host. such as "Hey Sam, Do you think the rst of your guests will want some of this cheesecake later?"

It would have been nice if they had left it for the other guests, especially since they left early. But keep in mind that they brought a dish without being asked, which was generous of them to do.

It was rude of them to take it. They brought it (even though it wasn't asked of them) as a contribution to the meal. They should have left it for everyone to share.

that's a hard one..I think yes.it was rude in my book. When I bring things to a dinner I either put it on a dish I don't want and I don't bring home the left overs if there is any left I leave it for the party givers

They brought it, they can take it. As you noted, there was plenty of food so if a few missed out on the cheesecake, too bad. I wouldn't get upset about a couple of slices of cheesecake.

Yes, it's always rude to take home food you brought to someone's house.

I'd call it poor manners rather than rude. Maybe they just wanted to take their cake-plate back.
Rude would have been not sharing it with anyone.

Officially, it wasn't rude. Personally, I believe it was in poor taste. Shame on them. I wouldn't invite them every again.
