The person of the Holy Spirit still operates through the many membered body of Christ..the 9 gifts of the Spirit are as presented in these verses:
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; : To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues" (I Cor. 12).
"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you."(16:7) Also in John it says, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things...
Jesus has not returned yet and Holy Spirit has not left us,alone.

I am a cessassionalist for all the reasons stated on my site, the link for which can be found on my Yahoo 360.
The apostle Paul did say the would cease and the divisions that are caused over this issue boil down to the fact that he wasn't specific as to WHEN they would cease. There are many prophetic Scriptures that I list on my site under this topic that show that, in the days directly preceding the great tribulation, there would be a great outpouring or miraculous gifts that will convince people to accept the Gospel. Why would this be so miraculous as to make people stand up and take notice if it is just going to be more of the same outpouring that has been going on for more than 2000 years of the church's history? Furthermore, these prophecies speak of this outpouring being upon the nation of Israel, not upon the church.
In fact, the Bible is silent about the sign gifts being used after the death of the Apostles. Their usefulness no longer existed once the Christian church had been established.

"But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." -- 1 Cor 13:10 KJV
The full revelation of the New Covenant has not yet been revealed to man, because the knowledge thereof not been perfected yet, which denotes that Christ's church has not fully matured yet.
Hence, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still present and in full force, witnessing and harvesting souls in the Name of Jesus for the kingdom of God. How can we continue to witness to others and sanctify ourselves without the Holy Spirit and its gifts?
God Bless You!

The Holy Spirit gives different people different gifts, speaking in tongues, the gift of prophecy, etc. and I think they are still very present in believers today. Some critics say it was only in the bible days but for me and my church we believe!

Yes, these are alive and well.
These pass at the end of this age.
1 Corinthians 12:8-10
wisdom,
knowledge,
faith,
healing,
miracles,
prophecy,
discerning of spirits,
speaking in tongues,/interpretation of tongues
-
tongues means languages
----------
1Corinthians Chapters 12 and 13 cover the passing for the need of Gifts as we grow up and become Spirit-filled. For these become part of us....
----------
Difficult to explain in a short answer blurb.

One does not lose his gifts from the Holy Spirit. Yes, they are still given freely and always will be.

Unfortunately there are people that are much influenced by what they have been taught as children or young people.
These often become cessationalists. God's work is continuous and He works through the Holy Spirit. It may not be seen right now but will be seen by them in the future. It may not be as various denominations pretend to show it but the Gifts are alive and dynamic.
If we live an abundant life this is a gift from God through the Holy Spirit.
Here, in John, Jesus tells us the Holy Spirit will be with us.
John 16:7 - 14
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
Strong's Concordance "power".
dunamis doo'-nam-is from 1410; force (literally or figuratively); specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself):--ability, abundance, meaning, might(-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle(-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work.

Miracles have ceased. Look at life and you will not find one true miracle. The gifts which were miracles do not exist. My bisis is 25 plus years studying the bible and this topic and personal experience in Pentecostal churches.
Paul said they would cease and he also said that only love wwould remain because love is greater than these gifts, but how many people who believe the gifts are still given understand love much less show it?

Jesus said repent and be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. He still exists and warms my soul.
But you can fall away or not come when you feel Him tugging at your heart or blaspheme and He will leave you.
