Revelation 2 20Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

21And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

22Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

23And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

So for the simple sin of adultery, not even murder, this Jesus says the woman will be repeatedly raped and all her children murdered.

A little extreme, isn't it?

blackstarling, so you're saying that if your child did all those things, with their FREE WILL, you'd happily torture and kill them for not listening to you?

Wow.

Consider this: You have a child who never loved you. One day, your son or daughter drives drunk and due to their own negligence begins to careen off the road. You see them nearly drive off a cliff but put your car between them and the cliff saving them by disabling their car on the shoulder and you go over, dying in the resulting crash. You gave your life so that this ungrateful child could live. Through the rest of their life, they denounce you, disgrace your blood, your name, and everything that you ever were, scoffing when someone mentions your sacrifice. Not only do they ignore your contribution to their life, they spread their hatred and ignorance, calling you out as a liar, a monster, a fake, and much worse. I could go on...

What's extreme then? What's less believable? Is it unbelievable that someone could turn their back on their own children after their children defiled and abused their maker? Or is it extreme that this maker would enact justice upon his creation?

Jezebel was the woman who used her control over King Ahab to subject Israel and slaughters the prophets. In that very passage she induces members of the church, holy men, to commit acts of sexual immorality and to eat things sacrificed to idols of false gods. Whether or not it is the same or a separate 'Jezebel,' it is assumed that the name is meant to convey that this is an evil woman indeed. I think that the extremity of her punishment is justified by the extremity of the thoughtless, sinful and immoral acts that she committed.

If you are asking if I think that her punishment is -too- extreme, No. I don't.

Revelations was written buy a lonely guy in an island cave who was fleeing from roman persecution. It wasn't even going to make it into the cannon. I wouldn't put too much literal stock in that, or any part of the book actually.

What I do not get is if you do not believe, Why Are You
Even Reading The Bible?
I know some non believers and we are friends and
we do not bring up this at all. He has no interest in
reading the Bible and I do not read any of his stuff
on this subject. We don't try to provoke each other
on this.
Ah, well.

No...

This symbolic meaning is.. This harlot has lead His children astray...

As a parent, I would get pretty angry too and would be apt to put a boot in someone's butt..

But if you read this.. Christ is still patient and waiting on their repentence.."except they repent of their deeds"

You're trying to define Jesus on your terms. God is as He is, for His own purposes. He decides what He is like, not you, I, or anyone else. The "Oprafication" of God doesn't hold water in the light of scripture.

Revelation is highly visionary, poetic and symbolic. There has always been controversy among Biblical scholars as to whether it should be regarded as part of the Bible at all.

Unjust???

How is a true and correct judgment unjust? As the text says, "And I will give to each one of you in accordance with your actions."

Because of the severity of sin. God is just, and His mercy will not last forever. It is proper to punish those who are wicked and disobedient to Him. If the wicked should not be punished, should the righteous be rewarded?
