Well it won't take long because the sun there is very strong in the summer. Start with a 30 and apply it 30 minutes before hitting the beach or the pool. Reapply if you swim and/or sweat. Don't forget sunscreen for your face too. Try and avoid the 11am to 2 pm sun. Spanish people go back to the beach after lunch at about 3:00 and stay til about 6 when the sun is not so strong.
Moisturize every night and work your way down to an 8 (depends on long you're there for).
One other tip- buy the sunscreen there.
Have fun! It's my fav place in the world.

A high factor to start with and as you tan use a lower factor, also drink plenty of water when you sunbath and keep reappling sunblock regulary.I am naturally pale skinned to be honest I had a course of sunbed sessions before I went away and it's the best thing I did, I did'nt burn or peel on holiday and it gave me a good base coat to start with.

why dont you apply a good fake tan a day or so before you go? but dont forget to use the sun screen whilst away for protection.
This way you will not look to pale on the first few days but will still be able to buid up a nice tan to.
