Imovie and final cut don't let me import footage extracted from a dvd.What can I do to make it work?

I need to re-edit a dvd and I do not have any other footage that the dvd itself.

If the DVD is copy protected you might be out of luck. Also, if the file is "locked", you might also be out of luck. If you find out how to do this please email me - I'm just starting to work with digital video - I bought Quick Time Pro yesterday. Thanks!
