It depends what you mean by "so much". On a major road you don't usually need to slow much where the road is intersected by a minor road. You have priority.
On minor crossroads (both roads minor) priority is often ill-marked and sometimes not obvious. Clearly, you slow down for extra reaction time, to be sure you are not going to be fighting for space with another vehicle, and perhaps crashing.
Always be aware that even when you are in the right, someone else might do something daft. Better safe than sorry.

You should always slow down when approaching cross roads, even marked ones, just for the simple fact that other people can make mistakes and there is always the chance that another person has made a wrong decision regarding your speed, his speed, etc.
Unmarked cross roads are to be approached with caution and at a slower speed as no-one has priority - if two cars think that they will just burn across at speed without slowing and meet in the middle then....ouch!

To avoid hitting someone and damaging property. What does this have to do with Insurance and Registration?
The question of priority depends on the condition. If there are 2 way stop signs, the vehicle with the stop sign yields to the one without. Usually if it's a state highway crossing a county road, the state highway would have the right of way and the county road the stop sign. If it's a 4 way stop, the first in is the first out. If you arrived at the same time, the one to your right has right of way. Same thing with no stop signs.

Iff you dont slow down and use caution at cross roads you will soon have to contact your insurance company, and will probably require another another vehicle to re-register,if you are still in the land of the living. Just hope you dont take anyone else with you !!. ? Always assume the other person has the right of way unless otherwise informed.

I don't know if I can understand the first part of you question. You would want to slow down at intersections I would think. If it's an uncontrolled intersection (no signs) in a residential neighborhood, the driver to your right has the right-of-way - after both cars have stopped. The same holds true at a four way stop.

On an unmarked crossroad no-one that is why you slow down. otherwise the markings will tell you who has priority,
I was taught don't insist upon it if the other driver is being silly

You slow down to give yourself time to assess the dangers, if any, of crossing the intersection. Your speed would depend on how much of the crossing road you could see.
Understand that there is no legal definition of "right of way", which is what I think you're asking.
Personally, I believe the largest vehicle on the road gets the right of way. I ain't gonna argue with a forty-ton eighteen wheeler!

You have to allow for someone shooting across the junction, this could be one of the emergency services (Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade) or just another motorist running the risk!
The dotted lines in the road will indicate who has 'right of way'.

Somebody or something could cross your path, the slower you are going the quicker you will stop.
