He's definately hurt, either the bone or one of the teeth. Don't poke at it or try to clean the area or you could make it more painful for him. Keep him indoors so he's easy to find and get an appointment made with the vet.

It sounds like he jumped off of something and didn't cushion his landing enough. The first thing that hits the ground when the feet and legs don't act like shock absorbers is the chin of the cat, and they get injured there. They drool saliva then, because it hurts bad.

Watch to see if he eats and drinks, and get him in to the vet for an evaluation. If the bone is broken he's going to need pain killers to help take care of it. If it's a tooth, they can take the broken part out. Either way,he's in a lot of pain right now and should be kept in the house so he doesn't hide somewhere outside.

Dry his mouth with a paper towel. Does he slobber it all wet still? If yes, VET NOW, it sounds like he ate something toxic, and is salivating profusely as a result. I had one do this and vomit up a AAA alkaline battery en route to the vet...thank goodness for carsickness on rare occasions, huh?

If he starts acting strange, take him to the vet. I think that he was just out with a girl, sometimes when female cats are in heat, you will notice your cat being gone, or the other way around.

Good Luck

Your description is kinda vague. Is the cat drooling because of a broken tooth, maybe??? Is something stuck in it's mouth? Maybe it ate something bad, sometimes that will cause cats to drool. Is it UTD on it's rabies vaccination, sometimes when an animal gets rabies, it will "foam" at the mouth. If you aren't sure, the best thing to do is to call your veterinarian ASAP.

Maybe Roden Ulcers?

It could look like saliva but actually it is a Sore Blister like.

Take him to the vet. He might have rabies I'm afraid. If he did he might need to be put down because it might be too late for the shots and he might give another animal rabies.

You should take him to the vet. He could have eaten something poisonous or he could have a foreign body stuck in his teeth, tongue or throat. Do you have stinging nettle plants where you live?

Take him to the vet or emergency clinic now. If you don't, you will regret it if something happens!!
