My beautiful baby girl died 3 months ago. I have searched the world (at least on petfinder) to replace her but no cat has the "IT" she had. I miss her so badly I cry alot still and don't think I'll ever get over her. If I have her cloned will it just be a look alike or will the cloned kitty have personality too? She's been gone for 3 months and I still have her toys that I haven't let the other cats touch. Can I get DNA from them or where?

I am so sorry for your loss. You will never be able to replace her because she was unique and special.

When my boy died a few years ago, I purposely got another cat who looked or acting nothing like my Thomas. It would have been too painful for me to have another one just like him. I love my new guy because he is the cat he is.

all what I know about cloning is that when animals have been cloned they do look like the original. My thought would be that even in twins there are some things alike and some not alike and some twins do have the same dna. Cloning is costly (from what I heard, about $10,000 or more) , and, the cloned animals have not lived as long ie they aged quicker so you'd face another kittie demise in a shorter period of time, and again. My question to you would be "why do you call her a baby girl" and "why can't you move on"? You know that pets only last to a certain age and it's normal in life to be born and to die. You don't need to "get over her", what you need to do is put her in your memory along with the good times with her and move on with life. You say you have other cats to take care of. If you thought of her as more than a pet or are pining for her any length of time then you need to seek the advice of a psychologist.

The clone would be the same cat gentically but it would be raised having different experiences than the original cat and would therefore have a different personality and would really not be the same cat. Besides you would have had to collect DNA from your cats stomach lining for it to have been cloned, and cloning costs something like $9,000.00, and the clones are never are as healthy or live as long as the real thing. Just give yourself some more time...just remember the good memories you had with her and the good life you provided for her. You may never "replace" her...so just be glad that you got to experience owning a cat that was so special.

They do clone cats, but the current price of doing it is fifty thousand dollars, way out of anyone's budget right now. The two cloned cats they've done already have had different coat patterns and not the same personality (half the personality depends on what they experience in their environment), so you're not going to be getting an EXACT copy of your pet, just an exact DNA copy, which gives an awful lot of wiggle room for the copied cat to be very different.

DNA wouldn't be off the toys, but if you had a whisker of hers, or fur with the bulb on the end of it (not shed fur, but some that was pulled out, it's at the base of the hair follicle that the DNA is found) that would be what they use. Not saliva or such.

I don't know anything about cloning but I thought they were still in the process of researching it and I don't think that the general public has access to cloning facillities. What I do know is that it hurts when you lose a pet and there is no doubt that you loved your cat dearly The pain will fade eventually but it can take along time I wouldn't advise you go and try to find a cat/kitten just on the basis of trying to replace your cat as you will most likely end up dissapointed as every cat is different and unique. When you feel ready maybe you could get another cat companion and hopefully you will love it for itself and not because it reminds you of your old cat good luck and just think of the good memories you shared.

No, your cat will just look like the other one, also, if you are sad about your cat dying, you need to get a totally different type of cat, or even a dog, that way your memories will still be their if you think about it, but you won't be sad all the time. Also, their are different personalities in cats, that are just as great.

Keep the memories of your baby girl as they are. I love my baby so much and just realized how happy I am that they do not have medicine to keep a pet or person alive forever, because I would use it :) My point is keep the memories you have from her as they are. If you have her cloned then you might confuse the memories from her with the cloned one. I love my baby (Tuxedo) so much and his personality is perfect, my parents asked me if I would get another Tuxedo. I would not because I want to keep as much memories I have and not confused them with another Tuxedo. They are awesome cats, but my memories are too important

First of all, do you have any idea how expensive it would be to clone your cat?
Second it would just look like her, it would have a different personality.
If your cat died three months ago, I don't think you could still clone her.

Okay I am sure you probably don't want to hear this but... DON'T DO IT. It is still in experimental grounds right now and it isn't a grantee that you would get anything like your old cat back. I think it would be a colossus waist of money.
