An unjust war is an extreme conflict without good reason. This concept is very subjective, and a matter of opinion. The rule of thumb has been how the international community views it. In a nutshell, what the United Nations, and NATO think about it.
The current Iraq War is an example of this. Both the U.N. and NATO opposed the action. But like with most things, talk is cheap. It's what you do that matters. So far they have down nothing to oppose the invasion. Big kids on the block get to do what they want.

-The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
-The invasion of Kuwait by Iraq
-The current War in Iraq
-Israel's invasion of Lebanon last summer
I would like to point out that most wars are unjust to some degree if not completely (the above wars being examples of being completely unjust). Additionally it is unjust to blame the troops for the erring ways of Government officials.

The current war in Iraq is an example of an unjust war. Iraq did not attack the US and posed no real threat to the US or any of its' allies. The objective of the war was also to bring about the end of a sovereign regime. This is also illegal under international law.
