I'm not sure about DIY shakes, but nuts are great for gaining weight healthfully. Have a bag of almonds or pistachios with you when you finish working out at the gym. They are great for vegetarians too! Be sure to also snack on beans and a boiled egg or two when you get munchies. If you have a high metabolism, your body will just burn up things like Nutrigrain bars and other simple sugars.
