A co-worker was teling me just last week about at least one hundred people he knows from his homeland that are using our social security system for their benefit. He is from an African country. He said adult children who live and work legally in this country bring their elderly parents over to live. They help them get signed up for a social security card and medical card. Now, since their parents have litle to no knowledge of the English language, the children are put as co-signors on the social security checks. We all know how hard it is to survive on these checks so, what the elderly parents do is go back to their home country and the children cash the checksthat continue to come in and send the money to them, since the gov't was not told they left. The American dollar goes a looong way over there and they buy new houses and live like kings and queens on our money. This co-worker stated that many have told the INS/gov't but, they choose to turn their heads. This infuriates me!!

If anyone who has not held a job or paid taxes in this country is drawing a pension though the social security system, that is news to me, and I follow this pretty close.
They can get what is called SSI or "supplimental income" which some refer to as social security, but it does not come from the funds of the pension plan, that is funded by the tax dollars only, and then I believe by law that stops when they leave the country.
Sometimes I don't undrstand what it is you want in an honest answer, example"
"Yak Rider" gave a most truthful and factual answer, yet receives three thumbs down.
This SSI people refer to does NOT, come from our social security retirement fund, it is from the general revenue fund, or general taxes derived from income.
Rather than infer that someone is wrong, take the time to research the subject.
And for those that blame Clinton for these actions, again research the matter and you will find that this was proposed by the Republican congress and passed under Clinton, the same as NAFTA.

You're being told BS. Their adult parents are their responsibility for the first 5 years they are in the US. After that, if they have not worked 40 quarters (10 years) paying into the Social Security System they get nothing.

They are eligible to sign up for SSI (Supplemental Security Income) which is a type of Welfare program and is not paid for with Social Security money. It comes out of the General Fund.

Unlike Social Security, SSI can only be paid if they remain in the United States. Also, SSI benefits are really low. It might have increased, but the last I heard the max was $441 a month.

Hi Jayme M,

I seen a couple of other poster talk about SSI ..even if this is what they are drawing it is still coming out of our pocket ......the maximum quoted of $ 441 . the other poster used is off ..I know of three individuals that draw and the amount is about double this figure..it still is not a lot of money ..but with SSI they are eligible for all welfare benefits...food stamps, housing,medical..etc......Don't misunderstand, I do not begrudge any citizen needing these benefits ...but I do not believe these funds should be used by non-citizens and illegal aliens not when we have many citizens needing these funds... the three individuals I know of went through Social Security Disability to receive their SSI....two are mentally retarded an one has a medical condition that prevents them from working...and yes, it is SSI..but it is someway tied into Social Security Disability... ...I am just not sure how...

I don't know if you have seen this web site ...but I found it disturbing..the old saying.."the straw that breaks the camels back" comes to my mind...

What they are doing is 100% legal. Blame Bill Clinton. He was the one that allowed it.

And, illegal aliens are dipping into s.s..

Illegal aliens pay nearly nothing into the system. Anything illegal aliens pay is nothing compared to what they cost. California alone spends over $10 billion a year on illegal aliens. That is the same amount as two-thirds of NASA's yearly budget.

The average taxpaying family in California spends well over $1,000 a year in taxes to help illegal aliens.

vote for Hillary so they can get even more money.
I know a family from India who told me the same thing. Don't listen to yak rider and his BS, he seems to be very supportive of the illegals trying to take over our country.
Make sure you let your elected officials know how you feel about this.

This wouldn't surprise me. Benefits should be capped for legal immigrants also! No new legal immigrant should be eligible for benefits for at least 10 years.
