First go to auto zone and get the OBD-ll scanner (free loan) and run a scan and get the trouble code this will tell you whats wrong and need replaced. The mechanic may have cleared the code and caused the light to go off temp. I would go back and demand a free fix or the money back. Good Luck and GOD Bless

the problem is that there is about 1200 different codes that a check engine light could give i work on volvos every day you need to find out what code it has now that will not tell you definatly what the problem is but it gives you a good starting point and iwould take it back because a lot of shops stand by their work if they are honest and it has the same code they should reinstall your old part and refund the price towards what is wrong this time but if it is a different code the cost is on you good luck

There is a good possibility that it is being caused by a leaking gas cap. Make sure you tighten the cap securely after each fillup, and do not open the gas cap with the engine running.

You can reset the code yourself by disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes (make sure you know your radio code or it won't work afterward).

Have the codes checked at an auto parts store. They should be able to tell you what code caused the light to come on.

You gotta tell me what trouble code was stored, it should be noted on your copy of the repair order, I can help you if you give me the code. I'm a volvo check engine light master. These problems can be very diffucult to correctly repair so dont just assume the shop was not honest with you.

Check engine light could mean any one of many, many problems. Your mechanic probably did fix one of them, you just have more than one problem. The best thing you can do is to put duct tape over the light or remove the bulb. If you are doing regular maintenance, emissions check and vehicle inspections then you will do alright without the bulb.

i have had more than just a few bad vent valve hoses at the right rear of 850 -v70 they seem to split right where they slip over the valve fitting the rubber hoses are manufactured by kleber and fuel vapor seems to rot them out this will most often, set the large leak code
