I am 33 years old and I live in Southern Cali and I am sick and tired of it. I want to move to Las Vegas and start a new life but I am not sure how to go about it. I have $20000 saved up in a CD and I am currently unemployed due to losing my banking job in southern cali. Even though , I have a little bit of money saved, money is extremely tight right now and I dont have connections in Vegas for work. Im thinking about just moving there by renting an cheap apartment and then looking for some work but Im afraid what if I dont get a job right away. Plus I have rent to pay. I tried to apply for jobs online through various website but companies wont even interview you unless you are local in Vegas. How can I relocate there and make this work. Is this a good idea or should I stay where Im at right now which is Living with family. I am not married and have no one to support but myself .

You can find a good place to live by yourself for $800-900 a month ($1500 a month is living like a big balla!!).

But it will probably cost you around $1500 to get into the place. So you have to take that into consideration.

And you're right, a lot of places out here are looking to recruit locals. So already being out here would make it easier to find something.

But have you thought about roomies? You can maybe find some online...you just have to pray that they're not freaks : )

And if you have any experience in customer service (waiter, call center, etc) that will definitely help you find a job...even if it is temporary.

Ultimately, you just have to make the move if you want to come out here. Vegas is a great town with lots of opportunities, but it can be expensive if you're not careful.

I say go for it though!!

No anywhere you live you will have to pay first and last months rent and a security deposit. So that puts you out at least $3000 to $5000 right off the bat. Then like you say you will have to find a job. I don't know how many banking positions there are in LV if that is still what you are interested in.
Best bet would be to stay with family, get another job, save some more money and then if you still want to go to LV, give it a try. Personally I think LV sucks, It is a lot hotter than LA and dry humidity. People are not friendly and Not that much to do unless it is related to the gambling industry. Way too many people moving to LV now and the crime is coming with it.
Way too much new housing and the traffic that comes with it.
but your used to LA, so maybe traffic does not bother you.
Good Luck

Well, an apartment will cost you about $1500 and you need first and last month's rent and a security deposit, so it will take about $5000 just to get a place to live.
