If you ever read the Bible, just not the King James bible, you would not be asking this question. Over 1,500 words, times each one used, was used of the words in the the KJB, don't mean today what they did then. So most don't understand it from the KJB.
Adam and Eve were given a great life. If they did NOT disobey God. The Bible says they would have lived forever IF they had not disobeyed God. But they were given a choice and they made the bad/wrong one. And anyone today that refuses to believe the Bible and God and do what it says is disobeying God too and sinning.
The word sin was not, until they created it. And we have not obeyed God 100% since. But at least some of us are trying to sin as little as possible.

You're right. They are ludicrous, but not all believers think in this chaotic fashion. You're getting one point of view and I would come to the same conclusion you have if this is the only version I heard.God created the world and it was good. Adam, having free choice, decided to think as a mortal instead of a spirit. He chose to use his mortal mind instead of his spiritual mind.He was no longer able to communicate with God. As God is spirit not mortal. This was not God's doing, but Adam's.It was his choice. If Adam wanted to believe there was pleasure in the flesh then he also had to accept there is pain in the flesh. The word sin can also be defined as 'without God'. If you insert that definition when you see the word sin it makes sense. And so the human race was off to a bad start.Ever since Adam mankind has been born into this world in sin.(without God)Jesus came to try and wake up our spiritual mind. He demonstrated that mortal minds belief in disease was an illusion. He cast it out . It was not necessary for man to suffer if he would think spiritually. He didn't come here to die for our sins.he died to prove that mortal minds belief that death was real was also an illusion. Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is at hand.Something at hand is readily available, but first we must think and use our spiritual mind. This is the image we were created in.. The entire bible can be interpreted from a spiritual perspective.

First, I think only Christians, not people in general, believe that. People of other religions, atheists or agnostics, couldn't care less about such notion.
Now, regarding Christians, I think it's only a symbolic thing. Someone has always to be the first at anything and serve as an example for all others to come.
So, Adam and Eve symbolize how "imperfect" humankind is, how capable of sinning humans are, because of free-will, and how humans can learn by making mistakes, regretting their faults and trying to do better next time.
In short, I don't think humans were "designed sinful" rather, I think they were designed "imperfect" and prone to make mistakes and learn by the consequences of such mistakes, so they can do better next time.

No matter what happens in your life, you have the freedom of choice. That is the way God created humans. Eve had the choice to ignore the snake, but didn't. Adam had a choice to refuse the apple Eve offered him, but didn't. Yes, we are born INTO sin and BECOME sinners, but we still have choices. God only forgives those who are truly remorsed and want forgiveness. You can't just go and do something evil, thinking God is going to forgive you anyway, you would be punished for your sin. Don't you sometimes test your friends, family and loved ones? Doesn't matter if it is by situations or a trick question, sometimes it's not enough to hear them say that they're committed, you test them to see for yourself.

The Garden of Eden offers a life that is comfortable and risk free. Yet Eve rejects the stultifying monotony of her perfect, paradisiacal life. As she gazes at the forbidden tree of knowledge, she seems to ask, "What good is life without wisdom that arises from experience?" Passing by the tree of life, she might muse, "of what use is immortality without knowledge or growth?" Eve wrestles with humanity's first moral dilemma and takes the first moral action recorded in the Bible when she crosses the limit set by the all-knowing God.
Eve and Adam leave their father's protective abode, as children must. God knows it is time for them to face life as adults in an imperfect world. The heartbroken parent appoints a guard at the garden's gate to prevent Eve and Adam from regressing to a childhood devoid of adult responsibilities but also to prevent himself from softening and allowing them to return.
The reader sees Eve and Adam leaving the Garden of Eden full of optimism. They are not at all the tearful, dejected couple portrayed in Renaissance art, expelled by a furious father. The first thing they do is make love and create new life. What a better is there to teach us about pleasure and responsibility, behavior and consequences, than through the knowledge that the fleeting gratification of lovemaking produces a child with whom parents share a lifelong bond?
Good news is that in the End ... Jesus bought us "Eternal life" and we will have knowledge of good and evil ... so ta-da ... we get it all.

Humans were designed with the ability to exercise free will in chosing what to do. They chose to defy.
YOu own a pit bull. It sprays all over your house. When you say something it growls at you.
What you going to do with it!
God thought he made humans and discovered he had weasles in his garden. Do you let weasles roam free in your garden!

Your comment of God forgives, than why did he punish Adam and Eve with this, we lost our immortality and woman should be even more pissed of because they got the curse. We humans believe that no one should be punished for something they did not do, but if you believe this story God punished us all for their actions. I agree with Suzy, except I say religion was created to control human kind, if you believe in heaven it will not be religion that will get you there instead it is the way you lived you life.

They were designed with the ability to choose and make decisions.
edit:
He didn't test them to find out what they would do, and he didn't give them a choice to eat the fruit or not. He put something in the garden that was to be used to instill in them the knowledge that they were able to make choices.
edit:
Why? Because by that knowledge they could make the decisions that a person who loves God makes. What happened was that some do and some don't.

Gee, guys, reading you here, it's like being in the company of critters who walk like humans and sometimes talk like humans but have the brains of a...a snake. I started to say 'a talking snake' but decided on 'a talking donkey.' Some snakes are smarter than donkies, some folks drink from the fountain of knowledge, and some just gargle.

Because when they were created, there was no sin...and when they first gave into it, it placed the Sin in their minds and hearts, allowing them to do bad things. I know that doesn't really make sense, but hope that helped.
