If you want to see big and famous houses, go to Hollywood and take a "star tour" which will drive you around in a bus to see celebrities' homes. But of course you cannot go inside and on the outside a lot of them have gates and high walls or trees. You can also take a tour of Paramount Studios. I've never been to the other studios but I guess they might have tours too.
If you want to tour old mansions, I would actually suggest Savannah, Georgia which has many old and historic homes. There are also a lot of historic mansions in New Orleans and across the New England states.
Las Vegas is great for maybe a week of gambling, food, and shows, but after that you just start repeating yourself. New York, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, or Miami have more (and more unique) things to do.

New York is crap, love. If you want to go to North America that bad, I suggest Toronto or Montreal, Canada.
Both cities are far superior to New York City in every imaginable way.
