You did the right thing no doubt. God doesn't make people sick but he does allow sickness to happen for His glory if it brings them closer to him.

For sickness is only temporary and a lost soul without God is forever.

Could it be that this preacher was more faith based ,being that he believes if one lacks faith in God's healing powers then that is why they are sick?
Or
That they are sick because of sin in their live.

This is wrong theology and really has nothing to do with ones faith.

We all get sick at one time or another in a world filled with germs, cancer causing agents, stress and etc.

God is a healer but He also may not choose to heal a person for a reason. We may not know what that reason is ..but He will use it for His Glory. That person who is sick now could use it towards helping others towards God. They have more empathy for those that are so sick in need of God.

In Job's situation.. God allowed satan to push sickness on Job cause God knew that Job was strong and would not turn his back on Him. God never allows more than we can take. Satan swore that Job only loved God because God gave Him everything He needed. God just allowed Job to prove Satan wrong.
Job came out victorious for not whimping out and God rewarded Him with another family, healing, prosperity here on earth not to mention all the rewards he will see in heaven for bring God Glory by standing firm in his beliefs in times of despair and trouble.

In my opinion, you did the wrong thing. I will say that you did not say who the preacher was talking about, when he said he was happy God made " this person" sick. God is a healer, but if you read the Old Testament through, you will find many cases where God made people who disobeyed Him sick, and even had some killed, or struck them dead Himself, again because of disobedience, after being warned what would happen if they refused to do as He commanded. You should have waited and talked about it with the Pastor, after the service, NOT in the middle of it. Non Christians just like to jump on those things to prove their theory that Christians are people who think they are the only ones who know right from wrong.

If you knew you understood why he was thanking God for making someone sick and you knew it was wrong, then maybe you should get props for sticking up for what you believe.

On the other hand, I usually err on the side of respect and caution of ignorance and assume that I may not understand their perspective or message well enough to challenge them during church. In that case it may be better to talk to them afterwards.

Having said that though, sometimes I wonder if it's worse to let a preacher preach when you know that they are doing more harm than good. If someone started saying that black people are evil, and homosexuals should be crucified, well then it's time to speak up, without question. But if it's just bad theology, well, hopefully the listeners have the sense to discern that for themselves.

I'd have to say "both"...I certainly agree with your perspective and if I heard a preacher say something like that in church, I would be strongly tempted to do exactly what you did. However, you were visiting their house of worship and by interrupting the minister to express your views, you behaved rudely...this rudeness may have caused others to dismiss your important message. I don't know what it is, but perhaps there was a better way for you to do it??? ...and I certainly agree with the rest of the posters who said you should never go back there...for two reason...first because the pastor clearly isn't preaching a message of love and second because people that get angry when their beliefs are questioned aren't likely to help you develop and grow in your own faith. Learning requires questioning...if questions aren't allowed, then they must expect you to accept what they say on faith. Thanks, but I'll reserve my faith for God and judge the words of men through their answers to my questions!

I am not sure of the exact conditions under which this event took place. I would like to share some thoughts though on the matter, which have been influenced by patristic writings and personal experience.

Why should we only thank God for the good things He gives us and not for the bad things He allows to happens to us? OK, we may not have the strength to do so.

Personally I have thanked God-I am afraid with not so much fervour as in different situations- for allowing me to suffer on various occasions, because it did help me think of Him, think of errors I have made, feel humbler and more dependent of his Grace. He has allowed me to suffer and when it was my fault, I felt I deserved it, when it wasn´t, I felt that it could be that I am suffering so that his Grace comes to me, through the patient suffering of my pain. God works in mysterious ways, so if He allows us to get sick, He has His reasons for it. It is up to us how we will receive it. We can get angry and desperate, thank Him for giving us a cross to carry so that we can follow His Son, pray He relieves us a bit if it is too much for us and learn from pain.

A sickness can be a blessing in disguise sometimes, so that by suffering it, unjustly or otherwise, we get Heaven in reward.
Some other times, it happens that people who turn towards God, begin to suffer a number of adversities, physical or otherwise. It is a battle initiated by Evil to turn the person away from God, by causing him/her desesperation, anger, hopelessness, pain. So again, one has to turn to God, and if one cannot get so far as to thank Him, one can ask for mercy and strength and Grace.

You did what you thought was right.God is a Healer. But in order for our soul to be healed, sometimes the body has to suffer a bit. I do not know if you´ll find some truth to the above comments but I hope I have helped a bit.

I'm with you on the point that God doesn't make people sick. Satan does, but only when God allows it. I don't know if you did right or wrong. I probably would have just not returned to that church.

your right, but it probably wasn't the best thing to say that in the middle of his preaching. If you really wanted to say something about that ,then it probably would have been better to wait and talk to him after the service about it. but what your saying is right.

I wouldn't have gone to that church. But if I had been you, I would have just walked out. Not that you did the wrong thing, but just out of respect to their beliefs because you were in their house of worship.
