It's in our contract that we have to keep our box connected to a phone line at all times for 12 months. Why?

How can they tell whether or not you're connected?

The Sky box calls a free number periodically to tell Sky that the box is still active at that address. If you disconnect it, they send a letter reminding you to check your connection. They do it to try and stop people taking their boxes abroad (the Sky signal covers most of Europe) and watching it there. This is why when people have Sky abroad, they have to have it registered at an address in the UK.

The Sky Box has to be connected at all times to a phone line for the duration of your contract (usally 12 months) Sky do check this and will contact you or send you a letter if they do not see the phone line connected. They can cancel your contract if you don't do this.

the true reason is for them to know you are at the physical adress that you gave them..,,their system uses your phone to check that digi box is there.
this helps to fight fraud

other minor reasons are...use of interactive services,tv internet, text message etc

they can tell if u r not connected to a phone line if thier computer system has tried and failed to detect ur phoneline within 3..4 months

They actually check to see what you watch and your
viewing time plus you viewing preferences.
Have caught them doing it.
You can remove phone connection after one years
contract is up.

They do that so that they can sonstantly change/update the demodulation codes for their encription scheme to your receiver. Without that they would be sending you garbage. It is also how they keep their network clean of hackers and illegals.

so they still get money out of you...no phone with them then no money
when it was t/west they could see on a monitor what tv channels you had...so if you had a problem they would ask you to go to the channel with the problems then they would say oh yes i can see it!!!

Its for if you buy a movie from box office or any ppv events. They use your phoneline to acivate them.

If you are not doing any of these, then you don't need to do it.
