Go into the manufacturers menu and reformat your hard drive, then reinstall your windows XP, Make sure to disconnect anything else, printer, Internet connector, web cam, scanner,...You should just have your keyboard/mouse/and monitor connected when you reinstall windows...

If you used the boot disk windows xp created, it created a boot disk using windows Ms dos 7 and it does not have a windows boot system on it.
Step 1 check to see if the CD Rom Is on the BIOS Boot list.
Step 2 If Not. place it on the boot list, ReBoot.
Step 3 Origonal Xp Bootable Disk in Cdrom Drive, Reboot, Have the Install Key at handy.

Please re-post with specifics:

Vista PCs? Laptop or Desktop? Recovery disks or store-bought XP?

HINT: XP must be installed first, then re-install Vista.

RTFM!!!
