In light of the decision announced today that the catholic church has agreed to pay out 600 USD (325 pounds sterling) to the 500 (yes, that's 500) victims of sexual abuse by clergymen in the USA, will you now be giving more to fill up the coffers?

PaulCyp - glad to see you're unaffected by this, wonder what your 'all-forgiving' god would say??

Johnny 86 - no, I am not happy about this. Are you? Are the millions of true believers happy about it? Are the poor victims happy about it? Is your god happy about it?

vicky w - we called it the communion plate in our church, as it was taken round during communion. And what has this got to do with anything anyway? Are you just trying to find a criticism because you are ashamed of your church?

Not until I find out what has happened to the perpetrators of the sexual abuse and why the church knowingly covered up this evil for so long.

(If I were a catholic)

I'm just so glad that I haven't set foot in a catholic church in some twenty years.

I recently listened to a radio interview with a victim of abuse who had kept his secret for nearly fifty years. The poor man's voice was raw with pain.

If I believed in god, I'd curse the catholic church.

It's not 600 USD, but 600 million USD!

It is well known that the catholic church is full of paedophiles and as such the church has a contingency fund set up just for this purpose.

It will make little, or no dent, in this fund.

I have a sauce bottle which is three quarters full of 20p's. I am going to get my son to look at them all this evening after school. That will keep him quiet for at least an hour!

I'm proud that the Catholic Church as a whole is helping the victims.

I'm ashamed as an American that the Public Schools limit $50,000.00 to each school child molested by a teacher/ coach and only gives them 180 days to gain the courage to report such crimes. How long did it take the brave men who came forward against the Catholic Priests?

I can't believe the US govt is so one-sided ... and I can't believe when the Church calls the cops on their own Priests that it is the government who lets the SOB's free. Isn't it the governments job to punish here on Earth and God's to punish in the after life? WTF ... what is the govt doing? WTF???

----- more ----
I know what the govt's up to. They elect Senators who form "Stop Child molestation on the Internet" and then the Senator appoints himself to the head of the appropriations committee only to "GROOM" small boys he selected for case studies. WTF?

The govt's also working with the Thailand govt to get criminals like John Mark Karr ... free Mr. Karr from Thailand only to set him free in the USA without the FBI watching him. Come on this criminal was handed to us on a silver platter. WTF?

Then the govt makes lists ... saying, "Here you go ... watch out for these criminals ... 'cause we don't care ... we relinquish responsibility after the lists". It's your fault if you don't watch out for the boogy-man we caught and released (priests, senitors, gym coaches, and home-land security officers, or whoever) WTF?

My contributions to God's Holy Church and its service to God's people throughout the world will be unaffected by the sins of a few. The financial settlement paid to these supposed victims of abuse was covered by sales of unneeded properties. It's just amazing how many of these "victims" experienced "sudden recall of repressed childhood memories" once the cash started flowing.

Yes, I will in order to keep Catholic hospitals, schools, homeless shelters, and soup kitchens from closing down because of this settlement.

I hope the other non-Catholic charities will pick up the slack.

Say what you like about other religions,
I admire the ones who kick them out for good, not cover up for them.

I guess it's a good thing I stopped going to mass years ago, or I'd be really pissed right now
