You don't "catch" hives...hives catch you:))), usually it as a result of an allergic reaction to foods such as strawberries (very common) or to the environment (dust, molds, etc.).
They usually go away on their own without the need for medication. If it is a more serious case antihistamines or other medication may be needed. Consult your doctor.

You don't catch hives, they are not a contagious disease. Hives are your bodies reaction to an allergen. When your body comes in contact with something it's allergic to (usually something ingested), part of the immune response is to develop hives on the skin. The hives themselves serve no useful purpose to stop the allergic reaction, but they certainly get your interest by being annoying and itchy, which may in fact be their purpose since it will draw your attention to what you just ate or got into and make you realize there is an allergic reaction going on so as to caution you to avoid that in the future. Hives are a serious indicator of an allergy and can be accompanied by a VERY serious reaction that involves the breathing passages closing up. That can and has lead to death in some people. So if you have eaten something that has resulted in hives, take that as a strong warning that you are allergic to that item and avoid it at all costs. The next exposure could result in a potentially fatal airway obstruction.
As a final note, I want to impress upon you how very important it is that every household have liquid Benedryl in an easy access area at all times. If you think you have been in contact with or eaten something you are allergic to, take the Benedryl immediately to lessen the severity of the allergic response but still contact a medical professional. The Benedryl can buy you time until you can receive medical help.
Good luck.

You can't catch hives. Hives is your body's reaction to an irritant such as allergies, food, medicine, stress, disease, etc.
If it persists, you should see a doctor. In the meantime, you can reduce the discomfort by avoiding hot showers, not wearing tight fitting clothes, and taking some kind of antihistamine like Benadryl.

You get hives as a reaction of your body to something. For example, I had chronic hives for six months because there was mold in my apartment. A month after I moved out the hives were gone.
